Today it is raining. Five years ago today it rained. We were in Ontario. It was the most magical day of my life. I was really sick, and the labour was scary. However once I held my darling sweet little girl all that melted away. Every fiber in my being wanted to be with this little thing. Sadly we were separated due to my illness, and her size. She was placed in the NICU as I cried in my hospital bed, longing to be with her. Never again have I had to be separated from her against my will.
She is five. I am in awe. My sweet 4 lb 11 oz premature baby, is a tall vibrant and imaginative little girl. She longs to begin school, to make friends, to have a kitten (and a dog), loves everything pink, fairies, flying cats (her own creation) and her family.
This summer is a big summer for her. Not only is she turning five, she becomes a big sister again and begins school in the fall. She is trying to find her place in her world again. She enjoys stories and time on her own. Adores our neighbors, loves crafts, painting and girly stuff.
She is my greatest achievement. She created me as a mom, she is my first, she has captured my heart.

(she was a tad disappointed to discover her party was not today but over the weekend, even though we had explained this repeatedly. As a family we are giving her presents and having cupcakes after dinner. This morning we wen to the science centre. It was awesome!)

Ah, the joys of five. Kindergarden, that very first taste of school. I swear it shapes a child for the rest of their school years. I’m sure she will love it and she will be one of the smartest, most creative kids in her class. I have no doubts.
