Wow. I survived an entire long weekend without the internet.

I didn’t like it. Sure it was nice to relax at a cute cottage by the sea, yet that is doable WITH my laptop. Being disconnected is so not fun. I did knit a lot. That was good, feeling the yarn between my fingers as I created something from nothing.

The weekend itself was fab. The kids absolutely adored having a yard to play in. We had to drag them indoors after the sun had gone down and the air was cool. Ethan was especially comfortable with the great outdoors. I am so happy we found our dream house. That boy needs to be outside!

We went on a whale watching tour. pfft. The whales were GONE. Such a bummer. The children were so wonderful on the boat, never complaining, and so quiet. I promised my heartbroken daughter a trip out next summer before the creatures head south for the winter!

My Dad took off to do some exploring on his own and will back today or tomorrow. I cannot believe his two week trip is almost over! The kids miss him already even though I have reassured them that he will be returning.

I have been playing catch up and working on some new projects. Wow. It is so nice to be caught up and back online. What was life like before this? Are you totally interwined in your connectedness?

Having Fun with Grandpa

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Just to note … Ethan is so not potty trained! haha! In the morning we all have breakfast then go brush our teeth together. Becca will hop on the potty, so therefore Ethan wants to as well. At this point I am happy that he is happy to sit on the potty and be not stressed about it. That is just a potty seat on the toilet, something Becca was not comfortable with for a long time. I imagine this summer we will take a good shot at training, till then we can be non partial about it.

We have been having fun with Grandpa! We took a two hour hike through Pont Pleasant park (Ethan walked/ran so much!) Ethan woke up Tuesday morning (my Dad arrived late Monday night) a little surprised to see someone new in the apartment. However it did not take him long at all to get used to my Dad. Now they are totally pals.

We also took Grandpa to the library for storytime and he got to see Becca off to preschool. It is so nice to share the day to day stuff with him too! It has been so relaxing to do little and visit. I cleared my to do list before he arrived so I could just relax, and it is working out beautifully.

We are heading out to a cottage for Thanksgiving weekend. Chances are there will not be an internet connection. It is strange to think I am will be disconnected from my world.

Do you have plans this holiday weekend? (is it a holiday in the US?) Have a wonderful weekend and be safe, hug the ones you love and be thankful.

Edited to Add: Aimee is having some amazing contests in honour of Breast Conacer Awareness month. In fact, one lucky winner can win an amazing design by a fantastic girl you all know and love … check it out!

There’s No Place Like Home

Fabulous!

Absolutely Fabulous!

I totally understand the concept of vacationing! It is wonderful! It helps that we met up with fantastic friends, had a great place, with a big backyard for the kids, good food (we were able to cook for ourselves), hikes, nasty bugs, moose and fireworks!

Ethan Celebrating Canada Day

We started off our grand adventure by stopping in Fredericton to celebrate Canada Day. There was NO WAY I was going to miss our first year back. So we celebrated our Nation’s birthday, Becca rode a horse for the first time, got a temporary tattoo, popped a balloon, sang Oh Canada and jumped in puddles. The kids became hot, tired and celebrated out so we jumped back in the car and headed to Bangor. We found a hotel with a pool, swam & read stories till everyone passed out.

The next day we hit Target *drool*. Surprisingly, the prices were only slightly better than what we could find in Canada (prices are totally up in the US eeks!), but it is the funky stuff that allures me there. We found the cutest plastic plates (reusable!) for Becca’s birthday party next weekend!

Best Friends

We met up with our friends and totally slipped into our groove. Becca and her pal started playing like they had not been separated for a year. It was amazing to watch. They are such a cool pair. Becca has never played so well with another child. They just seem to read each other so well, respect each other and play without conflict (mostly, I mean they are KIDS). As for two families merging together … it worked out GREAT! You just never can tell with these situations if there will be uncomfortable things. Slight annoyances that grow. Nope we had a amazing couple days.

Mosquitoes suck. Pardon the pun. One particular hike, it was raining, and they were swarming us. We were searching for Moose. We did not see any Moose, but I am covered from head to toe with bites! Later Holly spotted a Moose on the side of the road.

Always on the Go

It was the most perfect first real vacation (that did not include tents, ahh yes we splurged on suites with a kitchen). My husband was amazing and I am so grateful that he made sure that this could happen. I miss my friends so dearly. One never expects to find soul mates when moving as much as we have yet, I have been so so lucky. J had a nice break from the grind and is eager to return to his lab to continue setting it up and his research. He received news that his first paper was accepted!! A professor with a published paper, I am so proud of him (even when he grumbles that it wasn’t that big of a deal). I threatened that we would host tea parties EVERY time he publishes if he does not start patting himself on the back a little.

Now I must focus on preparing for Becca’s special day. One turns four but once and I am determined to make it as special as I can for her.

How was your week? Celebrations? I will catch up (I hope) and visit you all soon.
