What a Weekend!

Monday, November 17th, 2008

We had a fabulous weekend!

It started off on Friday, you can check out what the kids and I did over at Being Savvy Halifax …

Then Saturday J returned from another university tour/talk and we ventured out, like good ole Maritimers to the Parade of Lights! It was pouring rain most of the time. We do not own an umbrella (well Becca does but we forgot it at home!) I am determined now to buy an umbrella! It was super awesome and the kids had a BLAST! The rain for them was just a bonus! We were SOAKED. Good times.

Yesterday we went for a drive to an art gallery in rural Nova Scotia. I had purchased some pyrex pieces through Etsy and was picking them up. We drove by Lawerencetown beach on the way home … witnessed some amazing waves!

We also packed till we ran out of boxes! I am getting so excited! TWO WEEKS from today and we have possesion of the HOUSE …. *squeals of delight!*

To round off the weekend perfectly, Ethan slept from 8pm to 7am …. straight. Not once waking up. He got up all refreshed and happy this morning …. I am so hoping this is a new trend for him!

Time Inches Forward

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Will November ever end?

This week has gone by insanely fast, yet this month seems endless.

It is not that I do not have a MILLION things to do, but still. I would much rather do everything in my new house! December 1 is our closing date. We meet with our mortgage guy Monday, and our realitor the week before closing. It all seems so far away.

I still have a ton of packing to do. I have presents to prepare for shipping and Christmas cards to prepare. Yet my mind just wants it to be December 1.

Our anniversary was awesome. Our totally wonderful friends took our kids so we could go out to eat. We had a great walk and talked then ate at a pub downtown. Magical to send time with my husband! We totally need to start a date night on a regular basis somehow!

By the way, I am still going to blog here. Being Savvy Halifax is my paid gig. It is a total reflection of me and this blog with a direction. Preschool life in Halifax. I am sorry if I cause confusion with yesterday’s post. I totally understand that time is limited and we cannot read everything. I absolutely adore the support but totally get the time constraints!

Heading to Prince Edward Island was so awesome. J & I had discussed the kids and I going with him, but decided to be pratical. Then at the least possible moment we threw cation to the wind! I am so glad we did! It was the cost of food for the kids and I, plus a museum admission. I so so want to head there on a summer vacation at some point in my life time. It is such a beautiful place!

Today the kids and I are heading to a Fire Station for a tour … I tell you all about it next week! Any plans for the weekend? We have a few thing to attend and tour about …

Tonight I Celebrate My Love For You

Monday, November 10th, 2008

hehe now you will all have that song stuck in your head ALL DAY! MUWAHAHA!

Wait …

Now so will I!

arg!

hehe

Today is our wedding anniversary. Seven years married to my best friend. The man of my dreams. He is tall, dark and handsome. Smart, witty, geeky and fun. We have moved four times in the seven years we have been married. Across our nation, into another then back again. It has been a wild ride, scary and thrilling all at the same time.

We have always been there for each other, helping each other reach our goals and make life fabulous. We have had good times, hard times, miserable times and frikin fantastic times. The last year was the hardest EVER! Even harder than the months following our miscarriage. Yet here we are, on the eve of moving into our first home, we have two beautiful children, a wacky cat and each other!

I love you J! May the remainder of our years together be full of love and laughter.

We are going on a date this afternoon. ALONE. Maybe we will actually get a photo of us TOGETHER.

I am so excited!

I do however want you to pop over to Being Savvy Halifax and answer my question. I am a curious cat :)

Books … They Rock

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

I have been burning through book after book since summer time. I have not had a reading frenzy like this in a very long time! It is awesome! I have a huge passion for reading. This is something I have been able to pass onto the children, making me swell with pride. In fact it is totally one of my best parenting, that they love stories and books.

Over at Being Savvy, November is a month to explore books and children. I am in seventh heaven. Reading about what to read to your children is a close second to reading to your kids, for me. Wow does that sentence make sense? I am so excited I am not even making sense! The point I am so eagerly trying to make is that I am always on a quest to find stories and books to share with the kids. Now that Becca is advancing into preschool and beyond the challenge is even greater.

Luckily I have fabulous friends that send me amazing chapter books. Thanks Holly, the books look amazing and we are devouring our library book so we can turn our attention the the cat books Jamie sent!

I am also fortunate to receive books from Harper Collins. They totally sent me the coolest books this past month. I know a lot of you have your minds wandering to Christmas presents already, well these two books are total potentials for the geeks and DIY’ers in your life. These books are totally the type of books that get people talking and thinking.

First we have The Hungry Scientist. Who can pass up a book that promises to instruct you on how to create edible undies, LED Lollipops and making pinhole cameras out of  (almost) anything! Now that we own a house my husband totally is concocting plans to Ferment Pomegranate Wine in our basement, while I am going to be upstairs creating edible origami. I am not sure how I survived to this day, without a full understanding of the science of ice cream and my husband, always eager to whip out the dry ice will be serving our first house guest Dry-Ice Martinis! Totally a fun book to explore!

Show Me How. A simple request. Well this book includes 500 step by step instructions for everyone to know. Some of the instructions are basic and I would hope that people would go beyond the book for further clarification before attempting some of these things, however totally a cool book to have. The book is amazingly well organized into categories, such as make, eat, drink, style, etc. I now know where to look if I need to sew a spooky voodoo doll, tell time with a potato clock, identify men’s facial hair styles, tie a Texas rope handcuff, mount a camel, or how to breath fire. All these and more of life’s questions are included with full, funky illustrations. Some of it is just fun, silly goodness and others practical.

Both books have provided us endless giggles and totally got us talking about the endless possibilities.

And if you have had enough of my words and wit, you can head over to Being Savvy Halifax and see Becca’s Top Ten Books (at least this week). What is your child’s favourite book at the moment? Yours? I just finished Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice. Cult classic. Had to do it eventually :)
