The Girl is Sick

The Girl is Sick

With only 8-9 kids showing up in her class of 24, it is not surprising Becca has now become sick.  She has had a sore throat since the beginning of the week, leaving her voice raspy. Her coughing is minimal, however yesterday she showed signs of getting more sick. Becca shows no signs of fever, but wow am I ever on edge.

Sick Becca

Although she is running around the house, crazy with pent up energy this morning. We are keeping her home from school today. I am going to try to make sure she rests and takes it easy. She goes through peaks and valleys on how she feels.

Ethan is off with J to get his H1N1 vaccination at our doctor’s office. He is still the only one that qualifies for the vaccination. I am so not one to worry like this. It is insane to be concerned with death when dealing with the flu and colds. Cuddley Ethan

Cordelia is stuffed up and nursing constantly. J and I were talking strategics if Becca were to worsen, how to help her through. It is a horrible feeling knowing that I could not be the one to comfort Becca if she gets really sick. I have to nourish and keep Cordelia safe and healthy. Having to choose between them sucks.

Cordi

Just to top it all off, it has begun to snow.

I am foreseeing a whole lot of tv in our near future *shudders*

How do you comfort your kids when they are sick? How do you get them to stay still?

Sorry that Becca is sick. It really is a scary time at the moment because although it is “just” a strain of the flu, it is terrifying when you read of all the kids who are the same age as our kids and were perfectly healthy have died as a result of swine flu. I am praying hard that Joey and I both survive unscathed but you just never know. Like Becca, he had a croaky throat and a low-grade temperature last week so I was starting to worry alot. :-( So far he seems ok but now I feel like crap so am worried that I am getting sick, which is almost worse as then who will look after Joey?
Your strategy sounds like a plan but I hope that it doesn’t end up like that and that everyone makes a speedy and full recovery. I have no idea how to keep kids entertained and still when they are sick, I always fail miserably with Joey!

  2. If she wants to run, that’s a great sign. H1N1 typically means you can’t get out of bed. I know at least 20 people with it right now and more that have had it and are over it by now. We’re getting our shots today but S doesn’t qualify so he can’t yet.

Oh I hope Becca is feeling better soon. It is too bad only Ethan qualifies for the shot. In Ontario anyone who lives with a baby less than 6 months old qualifies, no matter if you are high risk or not. It is strange how each province has their own rules eh.

    Take Care.

So sorry to hear Becca’s sick. I pray she feels better soon.

It’s hard to comfort them. Dimetapp would keep them still and made them a little tired. That helped. Plus their favorite movie was always good – along with a snack they liked.

Levi and I both have H1N1 right now. Our doctors subscribed Tamaflu and it has done wonders.
As far as comfort goes…lots of hugging and popsicles and coke. As a rule we definitely don’t do coke around here, and we don’t do popsicles very often. So these are a treat.
To keep Levi still…t.v. I hate it. I don’t even own a t.v., so we’ve been camped out on my parent’s couch watching movies. It’s going to be hard to break him of the t.v. habit once he’s all better!

Oh, I hope she’s o.k. I’m pretty sure J had it earlier this fall. They don’t test here unless you need to be hospitalized so I don’t know for sure. He didn’t want to move (so unlike him). It is crazy how the rules are different. Your J can’t get it from working in a University? We just found out the hopefully Darren and I will be able to get it throught the college he works for. Universities are one of the priorities down here.

That will mean we just need to try to find the 2nd shot for J in a little less than a month.

I will be thinking healthy thoughts for you all!

even though the kids are sick-they are adorable. I think it is almost harder on the mom..because we worry so much. HUGS

  11. I would just lay with my kids while we vegged and watched tv, and wait on them hand and foot! When they were active, I didn’t really mind letting them run it off. They’d wear back down quickly, and their rest would be better for it. Of course, I don’t do things conventionally, so my advice probably isn’t the best to take.
