I am in awe. This was the most amazing experience of my life.
So I had blogged last night through the beginning of my labour. I had hoped to wait till 6 am to go to the hospital, however Cordelia had other plans.
At 4:45 am, J wanted me to wait no longer. So we woke up his mom, made sure we had everything, called our Doula, then headed out the door.
As we drove the the hospital, I was not a happy camper. I repeatedly told J that I did not like being in the car, that I would walk from here (we were still very far from the hospital, it was so not realistic for me to walk), then we arrived at the hospital he wanted to drop me off at the doors and I panicked, not wanting him to leave me. He was seriously driving 2 seconds away. Rational thoughts are so not always available in labour!
So we headed into admitting. I was having contractions about two-three minutes apart. They have a dedicated elevator that goes directly to the birthing unit (which I like to refer to as the batman entrance). The triage nurse there wanted me to lie down. I attempted to then freaked out, literally bound from the bed and refused to lie down. It hurt to lie down. We then walked down to the room where Cordelia would be born. It was SO FAR (not really but it felt like it!) I had to stop three times to rock through the contractions.
My favourite position was bent over the bed rocking back and forth. They had to monitor the baby that way! I did get into the bed briefly sitting/squatting so the nurse could check my dilation. I arrived at 7 cm! w00t! In fact as I rocked, the nurse never left the room. Our Doula was AWESOME! J was AWESOME! I was so in the zone. My eyes were closed and I listened to their cues when I needed help to remember to breath. It was amazing. All three of them kept telling me how awesome I was doing. Really it was hard for me to tell because it hurt!
The nurse was super busy getting things ready, it annoyed me at one point hearing the instruments being put out. It sounded like she was testing out scissors they way the clinked and clanked. Totally took me out of my zone briefly. So then the nurse begins to quietly fret that the doctor was not there yet. I had no idea why she needed a doctor there, I thought I was so far from that point. Then they joked that it wouldn’t be the first baby she caught.
So then I started to worry because the contractions were slowing down. I was able to rest a little. So I ask if that is ok, our Doula was all “That is what happens when you are in transition” … WHOA! I was in transition. ALREADY!
So doctor comes in. I had been leaking on the floor almost throughout. That was odd. To be ok with leaking fluid that way. Mind you I was mooning everyone too. As the contractions picked up again, fluid was shooting out of me. The baby finally slid down into position, the doctor wasn’t comfortable getting onto the floor between my legs to catch the baby, so asked me to get up on the bed. I was hesitant at first but climbed up (with surprising ease considering) then she said I could stay turned toward the back of the raised head of the bed and kneel. That felt good.
Then all of a sudden I HAD TO PUSH AND IT FRIKIN HURT!
The first push was insane. It hurt so bad. How Johnny Cash understood the Burning Ring of Fire I will never know.
The second push I was SCREAMING … like a primal war cry screaming. It was AHHH!
Then I was all get this baby OUT. Third push POP … head is out, shoulders slide and done.
The doctor had to remind me that I could roll over and hold my baby. I was already moaning my baby my baby and rolled over to see the most perfect being looking at me.
The cord was cut. Then we held her and rejoiced. We walked into the hospital at 5 am, she was born at 6:15 am.
8lbs 9oz (3900g) 21 inches …I am exhausted but so elated and content. This birth was everything I wanted. We had absolutely no time to take pictures until everything was done. I will post some of what we took once home
Thank you so much for all the well wishes and congratulations. We are so blessed.
The internet here is so sporatic. So I will be in and out. I also need so much deserved rest

Wow, Chelle, yay!!!! I’m so excited and happy for you. I’m glad you had a quick labor. In fact, yours sounds a lot like my labor last month, except here in the States they make you get in a wheelchair once you’re at the hospital.

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY…. love this… have returned after being a too busy to check out blogs I love… and I find a baby has arrived in my absence. Well done little lady for birthing your baby so powerfully. I had a similar experience (VBAC) almost 8 months ago now and got goosebumps all over again reading yours. It’s amazing what our bodies are capable of. I hear the moo-ing… oh not glamorous but how it eases the intesity of the pain. I say, although it hurt, I never suffered! Look forward to enjoying the first milky sweet weeks as you get to know your new little one.
