Before I reveal the gender of the sweet little bean growing inside me I have to share a really hilarious book that Harper Collins have shared with me.
The Perfect Baby Handbook: A Guide for Excessively Motivated Parents, by Dale Hrabi is by far the funnest baby book I have ever read! The illustrations are classic, reflecting the wit, sarcasm and humour of this book. We have all been there as parents (especially first timers although even us veterans can be guilty of it), going way over board, being excessively motivated.
As parents we are educated, motivated and competitive. As I read through the book, I kept interrupting my husband’s reading to snort, giggle and share with him a parenting wisdom that somehow got by us. This next baby I am so going for Competitive Breastfeeding: Seven Ways to Nourish with Distinction. Or maybe we will have to go Beyond Co-Sleeping and try Co-pooping and Co-unicylcing (seriously the illustrations that go along with this outrageous concepts are totally fun!)
I am overjoyed to have FIVE copies to giveaway of this book. All you have to do is leave a comment revealing one silly thing you have done as a parent. Believe me this book will totally make you feel better, because you do not go that far! We are totally keeping our copy in the bathroom, for that constant reminder to keep it real and to laugh at ourselves!
Now back to our little bean, (I really hope you didn’t just skip down here, go back and read my review!) … The baby is ….
Girl!!!!!
We are so excited. I was secretly hoping for a girl (although a boy would have been amazing too!). Of course this means we have nothing for baby clothes but it will work out, these things always do. So excited *squeal* I will be returning in six weeks for another ultrasound, as this one was for gender id specifically. The best time for 3D and 4D pictures is 28 weeks. Afterward, I will be writing up an article for Being Savvy Halifax on the experience. Check out our Flickr for more pictures and do not forget to share your most silliest parenting moment, for a chance to win a copy of The Perfect Baby Handbook: A Guide for Excessively Motivated Parents!

YAY!!! TOLD you that you were joining the “girl brigade”!! I swear EVERYONE I know is having girls this year!!;-) Very exciting (although obviously I know you would have been happy either way!) Have to have a think about my silliest parenting moment, I just wanted to express my excitement about your little baby girl!! woo hoo!!

Chelle: that is so wonderful you are having a girl. i always read your blog to see what is going on with you. you are always so positive i really admire that about you.
Ok.. as for parenting excessivness stories go, i need to win that book, here it is!
Jonathan was born AUG 31,2004 in windsor ontario 1st child of mine, sweet baby boy. we took him out for his inagurial (sp??) walk sept 5th in 31 degree heat wearing… a KNIT hat, onsie, sleeper, sweater, and those little hand mits, and a BLANKET! Wouldn’t want the baby to catch a cold! A bit excessive i think. when i look back at the pic i just laugh at myself and think what a crazed sleep deprived lunatic I was.
thanks chelle,
congrats
xo
Karen
Congrats! Although now I have decisions to make
.
Hmm, the craziest thing I did? That would probably be pre-James. Painting his room, I left the ceiling fan on (it was hot) and his room had to be just right, vertical sripes measured out just so. You can see where this is going, no? On the ladder, whack to the head. Frankly, I’ve never been the same. Perhaps it’s for the best
.

Yay! Congrats Chelle!
I went overboard buying clothes for my oldest daughter. It was seriously ridiculous. She had at least twice as much as I did. Poor D doesn’t have nearly as much, but she has a lot of love to make up for it.

Awww congrats!! Girls are so fun, if we lived closer I’d have a ton of girl stuff for ya. The pics are so cool.
This is amazing!! I’m so very glad you got to go and find out!!! I’m so happy I have to comment everywhere
The hands up to her mouth is incredibly cute… ahhhhhh….
Congratulations!!! Sonogram pictures are just amazing. And, that book…too funny. Your review had me laughing.

Oh a little girl!! I LOVE baby girls! Ok I love boys too, but PINK CLOTHES! BOWS! PIGTAILS! Yay!!
As for excessive parenting, I think I’m worst when I’m pregnant. For example, needing to set up the crib INSTANTLY when we got it- when I was 6 months pregnant. And when A tried to put it off, I cried and whined and blathered that it meant he didn’t want the baby and wasn’t excited and didn’t care about my feelings. Silliest part? baby never slept in the crib. We took it down and gave it away when he was 6 months old.
Yay! (Your blog takes a whole day to come up in my bloglines so I had to come from FB!)
I knew it was a girl! Hoooooooorayyyyyy!
I’m still waiting for my book to get here. They refused to ship it to me in Canada (wtf? they obv. shipped it to you) so it’s coming from the author herself or her Canadian publisict.

Yeah! Congratulations! To be honest, when I opened your blog I saw the word GIRL!! in big pink letters and went right to that part. I did go back and read the begin after reading about you great news.
I think the silliest thin I ever did was with my first born. I must have bought every type of bottle know to man for him to try, and in the end he ended up using the Classic Nurser, you know that plain old baby bottle with a plain old nipple. I went through all the fancy vent systems, curved designs, breast shaped nipples, you name it I bought it.
With my second, we went straight to the Classic and never looked back. What is it they say, you live, you learn!

I was so sure it was a boy! Yay for girlies (it’ll help, as they all grow up, that there’s an age difference and a boy in the middle, I suspect…less girl fighting maybe).
Your joy is infectious. I’m all smiley now.

The silliest thing ever? Decided to eat for 2 with Chris’ pregnancy. Seriously, who would think that would have been a good idea?
Now for my daily silly things? I call Joey, Chris. Chris, Joey. And now I have Ethan thrown in the mix… I can’t even get a full name out correctly.

Congratulations – I love the pictures. When I was pregnant (over 23 years ago) they didn’t do pictures at all much less a 3D photo. Too cool for words.

Awww… awesome!!! I sooo knew it was a girl.
I’m sooo sooo glad you’re thrilled. So your 2 girls will have birthdays so close to each other, only 5 years apart.
How are the kids liking the idea of another girl in the home??
Did they come with you to see the baby?
Marzs last blog post..
Congrats on the girl! I’m a few weeks ahead of you (pregnancy-wise) with a girl as well.
Craziest parenting behavior? Well, that’s a tough one–so much to choose from… But when my daughter was a newborn I may have brought her poopy diaper to the pediatrician’s office for her to inspect (her poop had turned spinach green). I was informed that the doctor would not look at the pooo and didn’t care if it was purple, as long as she was pooping that was good enough…
Dear Chelle,
Congratulation!!! I have two girls myself so I never really know how to react with boy
I’ve been following your blog for sometime now and I feel so close to you. Thanks for sharing your life, your children with us…appreciate it.
All best
Luv
Shionge (aka Betty)
Congrats! I can’t help but be a wee bit envious about your girl. It would be nice to try something different even though I love my boys.
Yea! A girl! I’m so excited and so happy for you! I LOVE ultrasound pictures. I have all of my kids pics in their baby books. It is the sweetest thing.
Let’s see, something funny?
This is not funny, but so many parents were mortified by it, I have to share. When each of my kids started crawling, I taught them how to go up and down the stairs. I mean, before they could even walk! I’ve always had stairs, and I have heard so many storied of kids getting hurt on stairs, so I figured if i teach them, they won’t get hurt. Never once has any of the four fallen down stairs. But like I said, people would be over and up goes a child and the people are like, “OH MY GOD your kid is going up the stairs.” Of course, they said the same things when I taught my kids to climb trees, too. But hey, I grew up climbing trees and I didn’t want my kids to miss out on that fun!

Congrats !! A wonderful new Princess to add to your Family.
Congratulations!
The silliest thing I’ve done as a parent is INSIST (read that “demand”) that my husband get our daughter’s room ready for the baby to join her…he was barely 3 weeks old and not anywhere near moving into her room. This was followed by a full-on pout when hubby said “Are you nuts? He’s too little to go in there yet!” Which was followed by my husband doing exactly what I wanted to appease his slightly post-partum wife… Now, 5 weeks later, I look back and think…wow…I have at least another 3 or 4 months before he’ll be moving in there! LOL!
(I’m sure there are far sillier and crazier things that I’ve done but since being pregnant my brain is still on leave…)
Enjoy your little princess! Congrats again!
I’m not entering the giveaway but wanted to congrat you on the gender of baby. If I had No.3, I would want a girl too
