Keeping Resolutions
I was determined to go swimming last night. I packed my bag and psyched myself up, even though the pool had posted the water temperature to be really cold. Thing is the timing stinks. The lane swimming starts when my kids are eating snack, then they are off to brush their teeth, bedtime story then tucked in. I am not prepared to miss that yet. In the summer, their bedtime was later, so I had time to swim before their nighttime routine started. ugh.
So instead, last night I walked to the library and back. It is about 3 km round trip, the kicker is that it is all up hill to the library. My thighs and buttocks were screaming at me! It felt great to get out there! I was over dressed even! I may have to modify the resolution to exercise 3 times a week rather than just swimming.
Ethan is down to nursing once a day. It was causing me so much pain to nurse him, that over the Christmas holidays, we weaned him of his afternoon nurse before nap. Now, although grumpily he snuggles with myself (or J) and falls asleep. He is growing, talking and changing so fast this last month. His strength and agility has skyrocketed since moving into the house. New challenges and snow pants have really helped him. He actually enjoyed MOPS yesterday. After he screamed intially he had fun playing with the other toddlers.
Becca is awesome. She loved going to kiddie aquatics yesterday, although she was disappointed that Ethan and I would not be there to watch her swim. I am the one of the only moms that stays to watch, but it means so much to her. Yesterday she knew Ethan & I were going to MOPS, so lived through our absence. She is so smart and comprhends so much, yet resists learning words and writing. Anytime I try to show her anything she is determined to do her own thing.
We are off to the library this morning. We all really missed going regularly over the holidays. Is your first week back to the grind super busy? We have appointments, classes, errands and so much to do!

your children are so gorgeous! Love the snow pictures.
Daily grind? yeah normal days of our lives over here. Was hoping 2009 would start out fresh and not so dramatic .. yeah ok! lol

What great pictures! Good job on the walk – I did…nothing.
And I don’t have pregnancy as an excuse.
It is hard to fit it all in eh. Good for you for doing that walk. If you keep that up you will stay in great shape through your pregnancy.

James has completed resisted any help with handwriting until this year. I don’t know if it’s age, or realizing his handwriting is atrocious, or finding a program that works for him, but as he’s writing his Thank you cards this year and I’m reminding him of which way his letters go, “Why haven’t you taught me this before!!!”
Yeah, because I haven’t tried.
At least you get to send her to school and blame it on someone else

We’re still adjusting to getting back into our regular schedule – everyone’s sick, which is NOT helping.

Look at those teeth! No wonder why nursing is causing you pain!
Cute pictures!
Yeah, I think any kind of exercise at least 3 times a week is very achieveable … and can be worked around the kids. The other day I went for a run at 4:30 in the afternoon – very unlike me as I prefer to get it over and done with in the morning … but it worked, and I felt better for it! I am thinking about putting a notice up at kindy for a regular walking partner/group – once a week, a time scheduled that I will have to make. We’ll see

It is our first week back to the regular schedule too, and it’s kind of hard to get back in the swing of it. Especially with all the snow that we just keep getting!
Good for you keeping your resolution!

You go girl with a nice brisk walk. And yeah those teeth look like they could hurt. Max luckily was never a biter but he weaned at 1 year. he just stopped wanting to nurse for anything longer than 5 minutes.

This week back had been hard for me. I am having withdrawal from my kids. I am lucky that the daycare is only a 3 min walk away and I have been sneaking out at lunch and making to the daycare in time to give Nicolo his afternoon bottle. Holding and feeding him re-energizes me for some reason.

Wow, 3km uphill! In the cold weather! You’re amazing. I think it’s also great you stay to watch Becca. And that you do so much with your kids! Even if Becca isn’t ready or willing to learn about words, I’m sure she is learning plenty of other valuable things.

Mine’s actually not too busy just yet. But I am about to have to call and make appointments for my sons and derby starts again this week, and I’m trying to get all the housework and stuff caught up around here from all that time I spent in November and some of December being sick, and resting, and getting totally absorbed in the Twilight series!
Oh, your posts jump me back in time just a couple of years…to that slow weaning…to the time of realizing my kid will learn many things better from NOT ME, even though I might be a perfectly good teacher of them.
Happy new year, friend.
