Celebrating Pregnancy

Written by Chelle on Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Now that I am not quite so exhausted, I am beginning to enjoy being pregnant. I am still gaining weight much faster than I would prefer, however I went for another hike up the hill and back last night and intend on going swimming tonight.

I have been consumed with reading all I can about having three children, what the third baby is like and giving birth at the hospital here. I have had some anxiety, wondering if we made the right choice, yet last night I made peace with it. Becca is so excited about having another baby. Ethan may not realize it yet but he may be closer to this child than Becca, as she will be going to school soon.

Book CoverDuring my first trimester I was sent a funny book from Source Books, called “The Unexpected When You’re Expecting” by Mary K Moore. While I lied in bed feeling yucky, I could not help giggling at the parodies and stories in the book.  The illustrations are hilarious, definitely a fun gift to give to those who are expecting. You can check out more from Mary K Moore on her website!

In honour of celebrating I have two copies of the book for you to win. Even if you are not pregnant, you can always share it with someone that is.

So here is how to enter, leave a comment sharing a funny “unexpected” thing you experienced while pregnant or after having a baby (even if it wasn’t you!) Next week I will draw names and send out the copies to the winners!

Good luck!

Fun! Glad you had something entertaining you while you were suffering the first trimester blues.

Hm, something unexpected during pregnancy? The only thing that comes to my mind is the sciatic nerve pain. That’s not funny, but it was entertaining most of the time. Well, not for ME, but for those around me. My husby said I learned some pretty wild new dance moves during the times when the baby was hurting my sciatic nerve. I could hardly stand up on the one leg – and “dancing” to the bathroom was always quite the show!

Sorry, that’s the best I can do. :) I can’t imagine having three. I am looking forward to reading your stories as the journey unfolds.

    Oh… oh… I LOVE contests!! :) ))
Okay, ummm… well, since you’re having three, I’ll tell you the most unexpected (and hopefully somewhat funny) thing about having three that I found:
Besides the so, so UN-funny thing about being told time and time again, “YOU have your hands full”, the best time I ever proved this to the public was when each child decided they were going to go in three different directions at the same time!! I only have two hands, of course. Now that all of my kids are independent and walking, wearing one of them just isn’t always an option. So there I was, trying to choose which one to chase first. The one running toward the escalator, the one running toward the large fish tank filled with goldfish or the youngest of the three trying to decide if the man, who she wrapped her arms around, was really her daddy.
You can guess which one I chose. ;)

I sometimes get a little sad that D won’t have a close sibling like my other 2 kids did, but then she’ll have Mom all to herself for much longer than her siblings did too.

That book looks great – a funny read would be most welcome when my legs feel like they’re going to fall off. That was unexpected!
Do share the 3rd child research so we can file it away!

I love having three, but it is definitely an interesting experience sometimes!

Not really funny ha-ha, but the most unexpected thing about being pregnant with my second bio daughter was being pregnant since my DH had a vasectomy immediately after the birth of our first! Surprise!

    wow, 3 kids! man… that’s going to be strange, isn’t it…
so are you hoping for another girl or another boy & don’t say “doesn’t matter as long as it’s healthy” because everyone leans 1 way more then the other even if they don’t really care, lol.

According to my friends who experienced and having child, they didn’t imagine that they can bare a child and give birth to an amazing creature..Being pregnant is a mixed emotions, as a pregnant women you can think of the positive side and negative sides..but you are so excited the coming of your little angel..

For me the biggest surprise has been the “sneeze and pee.” I thought getting pregnant would be awesome because I wouldn’t have my period for months. And then it turns out that even if I don’t have that visitor, I need to wear the gear because of the sneeze and pee phenomenon. Guaranteed to show up any time you are giving a speech. More pathetic than funny.

Congratulation on your 3rd pregnancy. I have 2 kids now, I always think of how would it be if I have no.3, although I enough with two.
I have a quite smooth pregnancy when pregnant with No.1. But have a lot of hoo-haa with No.2, spotting, serious back pain, itchness on skin. And my No.2 play a trick with me during the 5th month ultra sound scan. Due to his position, the gynae have a hard time to scan to confirm the gender. Finally the gynae found it but it disappear right on the screen, so I told the Dr maybe that is the finger. Anyway, the baby came out as a he.

The most unexpected thing that sticks out in my mind was during my second pregnancy. My then-husband and I took a trip to his grandmother’s, who had a huge place out in the country. We were gathered in the back yard (a HUGE back yard) to play baseball. I was about seven months along and already had a pretty big bump. The husband pitched the ball to me. I told him I was going to really smack the ball, because I wouldn’t be able to run.

He didn’t think I’d even be able to hit the ball, let alone knock it far enough to keep me from having to run, but I did. In fact, I nailed it. It was coming at him FAST, straight for his you-know-what. So…he covered himself with his hands, then decided that wasn’t enough, and jumped up in the air spread-eagled. It was hiliarious, and all his teen cousins and his toddler son thought so, too! It took a while for him to live that one down.

Never underestimate a pregnant woman, huh?

I am glad you’re starting to enjoy being pregnant! I was so lucky; I never had many side effects of pregnancy with either of mine.

Chelle- Congrats on your pregnancy! That’s so exciting!!! I’m from a family of 5 kids and I can tell you it was wonderful having many siblings. I was closest to my younger brother growing up but now that we’re all adults, we’re all very close!

    Congrats again! :)

I would love to give this as a gift to a friend who is pregnant!

The most unexpected thing? Getting up to pee 6 times a night. And my voice changing. It went REALLY deep. A friend of mine said I sounded like I turned into a chain smoker. Very weird.

    We're having a baby!

I am 36 weeks pregnant. There are 21 days until my due date on July 26, 2009.

When I am very still I can sometimes see the rythmic patterns of my baby practicing breathing, though there is no air in baby's lungs, yet. Sometimes this breathing practice gives the baby the hiccups!
