A Quickie

The CutieI was all set to lounge around all day, the weather is icky icey and no fun, so sweat pants and cozy books were the big lofty goals for today. Luckily I glanced at the calendar and spotted an eye appointment at the children’s hospital for Becs today. I totally forgot!

Yesterday I saw our baby. The doctor was concerned that I was measuring large. pfft I knew it was just that it was roomy in there :P So one little heartbeat beating away. Perfect. I am 11 weeks and 2 days. Making July 28 the due date. I was a little nervous since I have been to an ultrasound that was not so perfect. In March I go back for the diagnostic ultrasound.

Here in Nova Scotia, due to funding and their desire to focus on diagnostic rather than gender, they take NO PHOTOS or reveal the sex. I was totally bummed about the no photos. I have Becca’s and Ethan’s tucked away in their baby books. One could in theory, go to the mall and get More Sleddingan ultrasound, but I am so not paying $200 for an ultrasound. So greens and neutral colours it is!

It is not really my thing, not knowing. I am trying to grasp the excitement of not knowing. I plan on knitting a sage green blanket and maybe (time permitting) quilt a little blanket for the little bean.

yuck. I have to go. I so need a pajama day :) My time on the computer has been so limited this week. grrr.

Hey good morning to you there and good night over here ;)

I am so excited to hear about your visit to the doctor and glad that all is going well and fine. Is that the law over there that says no photo at all? ;(

  2. Awesome Mom says:

That is such a bummer, how hard is it to move the wand down a bit and take a look at the gender? I would go nuts not knowing.

  3. I couldn’t STAND not knowing!

Glad you checked your calendar and saw the appointment! That reminds me that I need to schedule an appointment for Kiddo. He’s way behind on his vaccinations. This is partly because I really don’t like his doctor one bit. I want to find a new one, but I haven’t called around to set him up yet.

What? HUH? An ultrasound at… the MALL?? That’s so strange to me! Wow. And, you don’t get to know?? That would be so hard! Wow. I love hearing your stories… be careful on the ice today – maybe you can enjoy pj’s and books when you all get home. :) Wow. Did I say wow yet??

Good luck at the eye appointment!

No finding out the sex, hmmm. I have to agree it’s not worth $200, but annoying.

July is a good month to have babies in. I should know since I had two in July! I was a little shocked when I found out #3 would arrive in May.

Glad everything is looking good as far as Baby is concerned. Rest up Mama!

Glad to hear your little bean is growing well! How exciting. It seems the “don’t tell” is becoming quite popular. The hospital my Mom works at doesn’t tell either and they get some pretty irate patients. No pictures though, that is sad. Maybe next time? I guess each province has their “rules”.

I miss Christmas vacation already, we may have snuck in a few pajama days :-)

  8. Michelle says:

I’m sorry you won’t be able to find out the gender! I know it’s hard to wait, when you really want to know, but coming from someone who purposefully didn’t find out with both my kids, it really is a fun surprise in the delivery room!

It’s so exciting … this new baby. Surprise is good, but I didn’t know you could get an ultra sound at the Mall. That’s very interesting.

Awesome on the heartbeat. So so glad that you got to see it because I know you were scared, in the back of your mind that other u/s was always there. See… maybe this little guy/girl can be born on my birthday??? it would make him/her 3 days early, can happen :)
Too bad about the pics :(

you know, it is a surprise WHENEVER you find out, even if that isn’t ahead of time. ;) and if you watch carefully, you might actually be able to tell yourself. jeff has known with each of ours before the tech/doctor said anything or even really looked for gender. they do a whole lot of looking in areas that could be indicative, or not.

hopefully, the tech/doctor will talk to you as they are scanning. when they start scanning things like femur length, just pay close attention.

however . . . money? oh, come on, like it takes all of two minutes more to actually look there for that purpose. lame excuse.

congratulations on the good heartbeat and the SURPRISE! (and pick a cute gender neutral name–like peanut–to use in the meantime. i always hate calling my babies “it.”)

  20. Damselfly says:

Aw, I can’t believe you won’t be getting a picture! Too bad.

We are choosing not to find out our baby’s sex, and I am thinking sage green, too, for the walls of the room. I’d leave the room as is, but the spare room is the only one in the house that hasn’t been painted and it really needs it bad.
