For the past few years I have been dedicated to Becca’s eye sight. The first weeks of scary treatment with an inexperienced pediatric ophthalmologist, to fighting an American insurance company to pursue treatment “outside our network”, the fear of surgery, the eye surgery being canceled at the last minute due to a huge improvement, broken glasses … I was determined. Becca was a model patient. She, to this day wears her glasses always and without doubt.

This was all with the hope that maybe just maybe, the treatment would work. It doesn’t always work. There are patients that need surgery. There are patients that are destined to wear glasses for all the days of their lives.

Guess what!

Becca’s eyes are improving!!!!

Her prescription will be lessened this time!! Including the bifocal that she will still have but less strength!!! I was so thrilled that spending three hours with two sick, feverish children in a waiting room then bouncing to different exam rooms, then pinning Becca down to place drops in her eyes that stung like bees … so thrilled it was all worth it.

Both Ethan and Becca have a nasty cold. I had to wake Ethan and drag him to this appointment. Once again feeling like I was not being fair. Yet we survived the morning, all three of us exhausted, we collapsed for a long afternoon nap. I needed good news this week. It has been a challenging week full of tough times.

I am so hoping that Becca will feel better for tomorrow night!! Or will Halloween be spoiled? Are you ready for Halloween?

The long awaited costume reveal!

Ethan fell yesterday.

I was attempting to be firm. Be tough. Let the kid fall asleep on his own. Instead he fell.

He had a split fat lip that was bleeding. I nursed him to sleep and he slept, but needed snuggles throughout the afternoon.

I was cooking Bat chips, when I heard him wake. I wondered why he had not wandered into the kitchen and went to see him.

He was on the floor crying.

I asked him to come to me and he cried louder.

I put him on his feet and said to come here baby.

He attempted to walk and crumpled to the floor.

I tried again.

He crumpled

again

I panicked.

Called J.

Rushed to the Children’s Hospital.

3.5 hours later

X-rays performed.

A mother pinning her boy to the x-ray table.

It looks like nothing is broken.

A sprain that should get better.

Exhausted parents and children trek home, pass out.

After finishing baking Bat Chips.

He seems fine today.

Limping.

Poor kid.

Guilty Mom.

Should listen to her instincts.

Allow her children to be them and not fit the mold of others.

Snuggle my kids. Not too much to ask.

We are off to party like 3-5 years olds at the library … pictures will come .. promise.

Parts of our country are getting hit by snow, we are drenched with rain. I personally like the rain, however I designed the costume with no rain in mind. Let’s hope it is not raining on Halloween!

I have all of the details for Becca’s costume complete She will be dressing up tomorrow for a little party at the library, so I hope to give you all a preview!

I am suppose to take a treat to the party so I though I would make these Bat Chips.

Friday the kids and headed to the museum .. again … it was great!

Over the weekend, I shopped, designed, sewed, glued, glittered and in all accounts was really really boring.

I have a new post up at Being Savvy Halifax about children’s theatre.

We are off to join some friends at the library.

Oooo Halloween is less than a week away!!

I love Halloween. The magic of dressing up, challenging your imagination … the spookiness (although downplayed with young children)!

My husband proposed at a Halloween party hosted by the university pub we were attending. hehe. He was a dirty laundry basket, and I was a Post-It Note (last minute costume ideas for cheap!) It was totally a magical moment watching him drop to one knee out on the balcony, under the stars.

Next year I hope to have a Halloween bash at the house, something for the kids to enjoy. I totally wanted to do that this year with our friends, but life is so hectic right now and the apartment is so not party friendly.
