Beach Day!
Every week this summer we have attempted to hit a beach. Each week bringing new excitement and a new location! My friend and I call it the Beach Tour 08. It is a great way to get to know our surroundings, while giving the children an opportunity to swim, play in the sand, get completely and utterly exhausted…it is awesome.
We have gone to a couple ocean beaches and a couple lakes. It has been so much fun to explore. I live in the most beautiful place ever! Yesterday while driving to a new beach I watched a bald eagle circle the sky. It was AMAZING. I get a little bummed that I cannot take my uber great camera with me. Wrangling the children, chairs, towel, beach toys, a cooler and miscellaneous goods is too much to balance. Besides sand in the camera is a bad bad thing. I do however have my cell phone but ALWAYS forget that it takes pictures!
The kids are AMAZING at the beach. Becca is a complete beach babe. She was in the OCEAN ALL DAY. Seriously I had to beg her to come out and eat. She wolfed down an entire sandwich then RAN back to the water. It wasn’t even all that pleasant out yesterday and she still spent the entire time in the water. Today she is sore and tired. Poor girl.
Ethan always takes about an hour to settle in. He is cranky and whiny at first then finds his groove. The ocean moves a little too much for him so he prefers not to “swim”, opting for digging in the sand, licking rocks, tasting seaweed and eating all our food. At the lake he totally goes into the water, splashing around, DUNKING HIS HEAD UNDER, all the while holding his breath (it is the coolest thing I have ever seen!) We have a little inflatable ring that he likes to go in then he kicks his feet and swims!?!?! He is so cool.
I love the water, the sand and all that. I feel so fortunate that we live in a location that we have both ocean beaches and lakes to choose from. The kids are most definitely loving the chance to frolic in the sun
I really want J to come with us one day before the summer comes to an end. The kids are so amazing, I hate for him to miss this moment in their lives.
What is your favourite summer activity?

Ooo I totally forgot … I will post the recipe for the Scramble tomorrow!! Promise
You’re so lucky to live there! But why can’t it be closer to here? ;-(
We have so many faves…beach (too rocky here though), spray park, indoor & outdoor pools, walks, playgrounds, back yard play (painting outside, golfing, t-ball etc in the yard….)
I love summer!
much more than a moms last blog post..Seven Months – only five more until I have another toddler. Huh?
Great photos…even with a normal camera!
My whole family (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents) all have cottages in Bayswater, including my parents)
We grew up going there EVERY weekend from May to Oct.
It’s one (of the many) things that I can’t stand that Geordie misses out on.
Check out the beach there. It’s great and it has a ‘baby pool’. The lake across the highway from the beach goes under the road and is kind of like a little river that flows right on the beach, into the ocean. Perfect toddler water. It’s hard to explain but well worth going. It’s 45 minutes from Halifax.
One of my favourite beaches (besides Bayswater) is Rissers Beach which is in the Lunenburg/Bridgwater area. I also used to enjoy Dollar Lake when I was young. I remember finding a quarter there once and thought that, that was awesome! Get it…a quarter at Dollar Lake?!?

We live in the state that they call “Land of 10,000 Lakes” but our county happens to have exactly zero big lakes (there’s a tiny one in our city). Go figure. I’d love to be able to go to the ocean like that.
My son isn’t much for swimming either. He’s a sand guy.
I am so going to take on that challenge of one new beach a week in summer! We are a beach/water loving family … I’ve missed it during the winter. Auckland is a bit like that too – loads of gorgeous beaches around to choose from!
I love the beach too. We don’t live to far from the shore but usually go on the “off season”. We like it better when it is not so crowded.
This summer our favorite place has been the backyard. We get the best late day shade that even if it 100 degrees it still tolerable in our backyard.
We love the beach too!
Isn’t it interesting how your two kids have completely different approaches to the beach?

Would you believe we haven’t been to the beach once this summer, unless you count Maine (not besmirching Maine)?!
I’m supposed to go in 2 weeks, I’m just not a beach person. The whole reason I convinced James to take swim lessons on the other hand is that swimming well leads to surfing lessons.
We do a lot of inside time in the summer. Now, we already have a campsite reserved at the beach in Dec., no people, whales, that’s my kind of beach time.

I could feel as if I was there with you Chelle, I can see the joy on the kids’ faces that’s wonderful.
Ethan is a LITTLE BOY now! I can’t get over it! And what an adventurous girl you have… I’d love to take my kids to the beach for the day, if it only would STOP RAINING!

How fun! Jeremy was gone all summer, Gabi was gone half the summer, and school is now back in session. So, we didn’t have so much of a summer!

It really sounds like you live in a beautiful place.
How cute is Ethan that he can actually dip his head in water and hold his breath! That is amazing!
Aloha — we are finally leaving for Hawaii

You do live in the most beautiful place ever! I think my favorite summer activity is baseball practice/baseball games.

I LOVE that period of life when swimming is completely natural; when those skills haven’t been lost and need to be relearned yet. Wow.
We had friends in town last weekend and hit FOUR different swimmming holes/beaches in one afternoon. It was glorious and exhausting…and I couldn’t believe how many bags I had to pack to be ready to face it.
