A Mile in my Lane

Written by Chelle on Friday, August 1st, 2008

This week has been so much fun! And tiring. And exciting. And busy.

I have been working on a project with J. I am designing his website for work. I am honoured (and free) to be able to work on this for him. It has once again really pushed me beyond my current skills as a graphic/web designer. The challenge always makes me all twitty and happy. I truly am a geek.

The children & I have been hanging out with new-ish friends that we enjoy a lot. It is so awesome to be around someone, that makes me think, makes me calm and afterward I am a better mom and person. Friends are amazing that way. Replenishing your spirit, just by providing their company. We have created humming bird feeders and hit the lake, each day presenting full filled moments.

I swam 1.6 km (a mile) tonight. 64 laps amazing laps. It took me longer than I usually have time to swim (I have to head home to help get the kids in bed), except on Fridays lane swimming is held earlier. I am in awe. When I first added swimming to my training, I had to swim 2 lap front stroke then one breast stroke. Now I swim all out for half an hour (excluding tonight I swam for 43 minutes), hitting 50 laps if I go full tilt the entire time. I feel FRIKING AWESOME> Dudes. I swam a 1.6 KILOMETRES. That ROCKS. I have been experiencing some shin splints while running (grrr bad bad BAD shoes) so I may be adding some cycling to the mix. J has a bike I may be able to tweak to my size.

Quite a few people have asked me how I find the time to do all this training. I don’t. Blogging, photography, knitting, sewing .. have all taken a backseat at the moment to this. I feel like this is my moment. My time. My chance to make peace with my body, learn to love who I am, how I am shaped and be a wicked great role model for the kids. I still get little chances to be creative and to blog. I miss it. My soul hurts when I am not creating. I need just like 5 more hours in each day.

HEY it is a long weekend here … is it there? Got plans?

I am off now to start a Star Wars marathon with my adorable husband! May the Force be with you … hehe I am such a DORK! love it!

Star Wars marathon? Love that! I’ve been in the mood for a LOTR one lately.

And I think it’s wonderful what you’re doing–and don’t feel bad when some things take a back seat, that’s life.

Your kids just get cuter and cuter too you know? :)

You gotta love those types of friends!

    Happy Natal Day!!

There is not a long weekend here. You would think that they would come up with something as in the south school is about to start in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, if you’re not doing anything tomorrow, Catch Squid in Halifax, Sunday, August 3rd, 2 pm or 3pm! It’s a 45 minutes show at the Rotary Stage at Bishops Landing.

I used to drum with all these guys. They’re great and the children would love it! Warning though…might be a little loud.

    Check them out at http://www.tastysquid.com/
They also have a facebook page.

I hear you! My 3 hours of exercise each day (well, 5 times a week) really cuts into the knitting and photography…to the point where I was starting to stress about my relaxing hobbies :(

But, this week I knit an entire dress for a friend’s daughter + took family photos, editted and got a cd made, on top of exercising and cooking healthy meals and, of course, playing and teaching Sam :)

Fantastic job on the swimming and running! The hills of Halifax should give you an excellent challenge on J’s bike :)

PS-I recently took family photos for Tami…check them out:

Wow you are kicking it! Your training sounds really great. :) I need to get back to working out - I felt so much better when I was.

And I love Star Wars marathons! We used to do them when I was a kid - my Mom, brothers and I. Tonight the kids and I are doing a Super Mario brothers cartoon marathon. I’m hoping to last through two. LOL

Congrats on the mile! It’s been a Loooong time since I swam that long. I doubt I could do it without a lot of breaststroke. Way to go!

Email me J’s site when it’s done - I’d love to check it out!

That first picture is such a good composition.

YOU ARE FRIKING AWESOME CHICKY! Shin splints suck, try this BEFORE you run. Put your weight on one foot, take the other foot and put it forward slightly, bend your foot up at that ankle, like a calf stretch, your toes should be pointing up towards your leg or knee.

Okay, I want to know when you are going to do your first Try-A-Tri???? Huh? The Running Room has a clinic I’m sure and you are so ready. If you sign up I’ll come and hold up a sign. Promise. It might be a cyber sign but I’ll hold it up baby!

    No long weekend here, darnit.

But girl! You are amazing! You should train to be in a triathlon one day. I think you would enjoy it and you would be really good at it! You seem to love doing this and for you to be able to pick up that kinda of pace with swimming and running? Very impressive.

And I wish I could hire you to design my web page. I hate mine.
