I dye. Boy do I. Good for the environment… I don’t know, and would doubt it. But what about the laundry soap that goes down the drain with each load of laundry? Bleach as well?

Anywho, maybe the semi permanent will work for you. I like it! I do go to a salon though, ’cause I do things sometimes that goodness knows I could really mess up. Like highlights.

BTW I have grey, and just kinda mix it up with highlighting. I love it!

Oh my goodness yes. I go to a place called http://www.naturalfusionhairstudio.com, where they use all organicky products, and when you get a haircut, they send it to a company in California that weaves the hair into mats to soak up oil spills. Crazy, yes?
People ask me why nine of my kids have red hair- I’m all, uh, Cause their Dad’s name isn’t Clairol??

I got my first gray hair last year *sob sob* and I had to come to terms that I was “no longer young”…SOB SOB SOB….Anyway, I lived through that and have dyed my hair. Doing it at the saloon though, all that pampering makes me feel better

I always HATED being a redhead, but now I’ve realized that my grays will be a longer-time coming. My mom was in her 60’s before the first reared up.

Oh, you! I hadn’t yet considered the environmental implications. I dye, but as a reader of mine, you know I do it oh so infrequently, and not really to cover grey, though I’ve seen a couple silver vixens when the sun hits just right.

I just found this post, so you may have already colored your hair, but I just wanted to say that I am a stylist and I see a lot of customers who have messed their hair up at home and now need s professional to fix it.

If you really are going to attempt to do it yourself just remember to choose one level lighter than you think you need (over the counter colors tend to go darker and drabber).

You might like the result the first time, but if you continue to apply the color over all the hair, each time you do it, your hair will get progressively dryer and dryer until you can barely comb through it. So, you will want to get a friend involved (after that first application) and have them part your hair into sections and apply the color ONLY to the new growth (hair that has grown out from the scalp and never seen color before).

If you do go to a salon, I would call around and find someone who uses Schwarzkopf hair color. (It’s the brand I use and it is derived from many natural sources and has no carcinogens. I’m chemically sensitive and can’t work with many other colors because they have a heavy fragrance.)

I’ve dyed mine off and on for about the past 10 years. Yep, early gray runs in my family – at 37 years old, I’m over 50% gray now (sigh). I hate having to keep it up to avoid showing roots though. I haven’t found much in the way of ‘natural’ dyes and am kind of scared to try any of the ones that I’ve seen.

i recently dyed mine w/ a clairol natural instincts dye. it’s uh, not really natural. however, i did see some natural dyes today at vitamin cottage for $14.99/box (eep). i might give one of those a try next time.

I didn't start dying my hair till I was about 38, and I swore I NEVER would. But, it kept getting worse and worse. So, I use the Loreal that is guaranteed to cover the gray by 100%. It doesn't drip, (but does smell), and works great. I pick a color that matches my own, but go one shade lighter and I have had GREAT success with it. I would NEVER pay someone else to color my hair. That is a LOT of money. One box of dye at $9 compared to the money some women spend??? I'm a cheapy, too, and just can't do it. Robinas last blog post..Paint and Vaginas
