Surviving & Learning

Written by Chelle on Thursday, June 12th, 2008

This week has been rough. My energy is zapped, something I have not been accustomed to since I started running. This time of the month blows. I am feeling the up side now and took the opportunity to super clean the house yesterday.

Our coffee maker broke. I totally panicked. I (heart) this coffee maker. I am so bummed. It isn’t fancy but it brews a mean cup of joe. J, MacGyver-ed the pot so we can continue to use it, it ain’t pretty but it functions. Not only do we not have the funds at the moment, I also want to make sure we get a nice machine. I hate the pressure of something broken, hasty consumer decisions always turn ugly.

I took Becca & Ethan to a Reptile show with friends at the local museum. Becca loved all the facts and seeing the creatures up close and personal. Ethan was a tad crept out, but it was uber busy there which Ethan is never a fan of. It was really fun to watch the kids get so excited about the animals! I even learned something new! Birds … yup they are reptiles. WHO KNEW? Not I. Good thing I am not home-schooling this bunch!

I think after a hard week, some shopping is in order. The kids need summer hats and I wanted to check out some running shoes.

Don’t forget it is Father’s Day this weekend. I plan on moderately spoiling J. He is so the best Dad ever.

Check out The Opinionated Parent for an article I wrote and a contest!

Hey, don’t be disheartened about the run. Sometimes I felt worn-out too.

Hey this is one tough gig.

    I get that.

    And without coffee…I’d crack.

The way I learned it (and granted, I’m old and science changes) birds and reptiles are in a different order (remember, King Philip Came Over From Spain - did I forget something? Kingdom, Phyllum, Class, Order, f something - what’s f?, species.

But, there is the “dinosaurs evovled into birds.” But, I’m throughing my hat into the ring and saying that doesn’t make them reptiles. But I could be wrong, not being up on the latest research. But I did do the barest amount of research and check James’ new science encyclopedia. FWIW.

Glad the coffee maker at least works. Still thinking about running from the couch :-).

I hate it when I get my period as I am generally a total mess for the best part of a week. Being a woman sucks! I get really clumsy, am constantly tired and not a happy bunny in general. I have to admit to being very envious when I read that you had come on for the first time since getting pregnant with Ethan. Mine returned when Joey was 4 months old despite him being 100% BF-ed until he was about 7 months old. Someone made a comment about it meaning that I was obviously just very fertile as my body was ready to have babies again.. I was unimpressed by that as given my circumstances, a lack of period would have been WAY better at the time!!

Birds are reptiles? How come I never knew this? I have read so many books on birds, cause I have three, and I never knew this!

I need to start going to the museum.

The period after the birth is a rough one and the emotions go up and down. I am sure you will come out of it soon. Reptiles stuff sounds pretty cool.

I am such an energy-less cow at the said time of month! And the first few when it had returned after both babies were the worst - I felt as though all my blood had drained.

I am so with you on the coffee machine - hold out until you can get the one you want, not a rash replacement. Macguyver-ing rocks.

Hope J has a wonderful day - ours is not until September here.

We don’t teach that birds are reptiles - just that they are closely related. I think Holly’s right.

No coffee? Way to go J on the McGuyvering! That’s a real man for you. ;-)

Oh, how I wish you could come over for coffee today! It’s raining (has been for over a week) and it’s the perfect day for coffee with friends. (Totally off topic - my play group this morning? 21 freaking people! In MY house. Ahhhhh! It was a zoo, but totally fun. That included the babies though.)

Nothing like retail therapy after a hard week. We all deserve those once in a while.

P.S. Re your comment, is Trader Jo’s a grocery store? I would have died seeing C.S. there LOL.

Funny, I don’t think I would have taken my son to a reptile show. ;) Seriously, that would have freaked me out!!
The only reason why we have an anole is because I do not like animals…of any kind! and I feel guilty that because I do not like them my son has to suffer as well. Therefore having this small little thing (that was caught in our backyard), that is only allowed out when Daddy is home, and eats for $1 a week works out perfectly!!!

Think you need to have the low energy moments to make the high energy ones feel so much better!!!!! :oP

I can’t believe how big your children have grown! My goodness, it seems I missed a few blog posts and they’ve shot up like sunflowers.

I love the new design too. I am dying to move my blogspot blog over to my domain and move to wordpress. I’ve had such a time finding a design that was creative and original. Maybe one day.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my growing pains. To add insult to injury, so to speak, last night Charlie said “Mommy, you kiss me too much”. He’s just turned 4 and already he doesn’t want anymore mommy kisses. - sigh-
