Houston … We are Back
I am much more distracted from writing than I have ever been. After writing the last post on escaping into a story, I realized … that which was missing. Any good writer will tell you that one cannot write without reading. I had not read a good fiction book in months. One that roped me in to staying up late just to turn one more page.
I started and completed Duma Keys by Stephen King, this beautiful long weekend. It was just what I needed to feel refreshed and rejuvenated. I feel like a brand new woman. To think the author lives just south of us. I have been reading Stephen King novels for 20 odd years. Often wondering what Bangor, Maine was like and how it inspired so many frightfully, deliciouses stories. It may just have to be a road trip this summer! hehe. Now that the cobwebs are dusted off in my head I am ready to write and design more.
Easter weekend has been absolutely lovely. The weather cool and winter-like, despite the promise of spring. It was so wonderful to have J home, just chilling out doing nothing, no pressure, no rushing…just being. I so love it here. Here is so right for us.
We went to a dinner/play date on Sunday. “Houston we have a friend ..” (my weak attempt at a literary reference) Weeee! J enjoyed meeting the couple and their son, while Ethan adored climbing their steep stairs over and over. Becca of course enjoyed herself with her pal, playing and reading. It was wonderful. Good food, great company.

Can’t beat good food and great company! And YAY! for being inspired again. I lost my creative streak and ability (though NOT desire) to write a long time ago. I hope I’ll find my way again one of these days. I do read all the time, though!

We had a great weekend too. So glad you had fun.
I’ve been keeping it under wraps until things are more finalized, but it looks like we’ll be coming to Maine this summer. We have been planning a “big” family get together, and I voted for Maine on the grounds that it was reasonably close to Novia Scotia (you know, compared to CA) and I could lengthen the trip one way or the other. If we were already going to the East Coast . . .

I’m going to miss reading when my little one arrives. I’m trying to pack a lot of books in these last weeks!
Glad you had a long reading weekend.

Trust me - you aren’t missing much by not having been to Bangor Maine - I went to the Bangor fair when I was 15 (or so) and there wasn’t much to Bangor. No wonder Stephen King has such a wonderful imagination - there’s nothing to do there!

So nice that she has a friend to play with now. Sometimes you just need to curl up with a good book!

I’m glad you had a great weekend and met some friends! You know, I think that really reduces stress, to have someone to hang out with, ya know?
So how was the book? I’ve been wondering if I should buy it but just haven’t made the decision yet.

Sounds like a good time!
I love reading too…Mysteries scare me too much.
I’m into Sophie Kinsella right now…the Shopaholic series…Too funny. I just finished Confessions of a Shopoholic and now I’m reading Shopoholic Takes Manhattan…Love it. I’m gonna get the others next: Shopoholic Gets Married and Shopoholic and Baby…I’m not even a shopoholic.
But she’s really funny and I needed to laugh…

I too seldom get a chance to sit and read a good book. Glad you had a great weekend.

Reading helps. But going to places to relax, will help you more.

Good for you - I’m so happy you’re loving it there! (But… we can still wish you were here, right?)

I started The Bostonians on my trip and thought I would die of boredom but had nothing else to read so I stuck with it. Eventually I kind of got into it and now I’m half way through–that much time invested and now I”ve got to see how it ends!

Ethan is growing up so fast! It’s ok to get engulfed into books. I have been doing the same thing, when the writing just grabs you, you can’t help but hold on an enjoy the literary whirlwind. I’ve been engulfed in reading and iPod Scrabble.

I’m a big Stephen King fan too. I read an excerpt of that book online a while ago, so thanks for the reminder that I need to order it now
Glad to hear you liked it!
That’s great that you’ve met a family you guys can hang out with and have fun together!
