Let’s Get the Weekend Started

Written by Chelle on Friday

Well the car is said to be repaired (faulty battery we are told) and the inspection passed after $900 of work … ouch. J pushed the car to the shop. Have I mentioned that he is my hero. We can see the shop from our apartment building but still that is mighty impressive. He makes me swoon. We are now parking the car in the underground parking at our apartment. We were attempting to be all frugal but cold cars are not happy cars.

It appears Becca is ill. She slept until after 8 am (something she never does) and has again went back to sleep. Poor girl. We lugged her to the motor vehicles so we could get out licenses and plates this morning. She said she wasn’t well this morning but she is three and a half and can be “ill” when we are about to do some chore that is not her idea of a good time.

Thanks for all the awesome feedback yesterday, you guys really rock. I am so not alone and that really truly helps. Thanks.

The weekend is here again! w00t! As promised earlier this week I am hosting a contest. The awesome folks at Lemonsquare “Music for Fun” asked us to review their groovy children’s CD. We happily accepted two copies, one for you and one for me!

We are loving the music! We received it last week and we already sing along happily in the car and the kitchen! The music is catchy and sweet, but not annoying like some children’s music. Becca has stopped and asked me about vegetables like three times this week and at first I could not figure out why they were on her mind so much. Then it dawned on me that it just could be because I keep singing “I am very veggie…very very veggie… ”

Here is a list of the tunes you can find on the CD:

1. I Found It (a body parts song)
2. Very Veggie (eat’um up oh yeah) <—- One of our Favourites!
3. Brush My Teeth (everyday)
4. Bear Knows Best (animal sounds) <—- Another one of our Favourites!
5. Big Blue Whale (a fishy tale)
6. Bathtime (It’s good to be clean)
7. Lemonsquare Shuffle (our first dance song)
8. Rainbow (teaching the colors)
9. Wake Daddy (someone’s got to)
10. Dream (a soothing lullaby)

Every time the Bear Knows Best track comes on Ethan goes looking for the lady singing (way better than Mommy!) It is so cute! The tracks are really fun, make you want to dance and get my kid talking about the topics, be it vegetables or animals.

So want to win you very own copy of the Lemonsquare “Music for Fun” CD? Simply leave a comment telling me you favourite children’s band.

I will randomly choose a winner next week … The contest is open to everyone since it shouldn’t cost too much to send the CD out …

Now what if you do not win a copy? Head over to the band’s website for details on how you can purchase your own copy of the CD and hear a preview of the tracks. I have to say that one the perks for me is that a Dad developed the concept and pulled it all together. Many Thanks to Alan for the opportunity to review such a great collection of music for children.

Yay! Glad the car is on it’s way to feeling better. Hope Becca feels better soon too. Poor thing!

    Dirty Sock Funtime Band…Love them…

Love to go see them live…even though Fa hates it…and I have even had conversations with them at the shows. They are cute, down to earth and all around great musicians as well as entertainers.

    Truly great.

Glad to hear the car is fixed. I hate how much it cost to fix them! Hope Becca feels better…

I would love to enter the contest, though I can’t say we’re familiar with many kids bands other than Hi-5, The Wiggles and Kidz Bop. I prefer Kidz Bop.

Warm people are happy people too! It’s been very cold here lately too.

Sounds like a fun CD. My kids still like the Wiggles, although my daughter likely won’t admit it in public. We also have all 3 volumes of Disney’s Greatest Hits, which I love as much as they do (although that’s not a band I guess!).

I’m glad the car is better although yikes $900!

I don’t need children’s music - really - what I need is suggestions of adult music appropriate for children, but, I like Trout Fishing in America. I like Proper Pot of Coffee and James is Throw it out the Window.

Yay for getting the car fixed! And hope Becca is feeling better soon!

glad to hear everything is fixed and taken care of with the car; how frustrating though!

    Hope Becca feels better soon!

Right now Kayla is really liking Laurie Berkner, she got 2 cds for Christmas and we have fun dancing away; well as much as I can dance with this pg belly!

Awww poor Becca, being sick is no fun ((hugs)).

My kids don’t really listen to alot of “kid” music. One song that gets them going is “dicky dicky dinasaur - carol cane (I think)”

The fave in our house right now is Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, I found her a little annoying at 1st but she has grown on me.

Ummm… we don’t have a preferred band here but he loves the whole cd from “Thomas & the magic railroad’, lol.

Glad you figured out what’s wrong with the car, however, ouch, I agree ;-)

You’re scaring me with the future of moving back to WI with a Cali car! Will my Xterra be brave or wuss out with ailments of bad batteries and frozen locks?! Forget the car! How will my thinned blood fare to be back in the tundra!?

    And we LOVE Dan Zanes!

Happy weekending and get well wishes for Becca!

    Hey Chelle!

    How’s Canada?

Sorry to hear that Becca is unwell, we had the Norwalk virus here, no fun at all.

My favourite children’s band would have to be a local band called The Funky Mommas!

  13. Peggy Says:
    January 26th, 2008 at 9:13 pm

Sorry your baby girl is sick. I hope it’s only a 24 hour thing. We’ve had the flu over here for going on 7 days. Not fun!! Hang in there ;)

  14. Nadine Says:

I’m sorry Becca is sick. I pray she feels better soon. Car trouble $900…husband that save the day…priceless.

While I prefer to promote more grown-up music (Johnny Cash, Erasure, Ladysmith Black Mambazo) with the kids I am a complete and utter fool for The Backyardigans. Their use of music is ingenious. They did an entire episode with melodies from Gilbert and Sullivan!

PS - no need to send me a CD. Just wanted to give you comments since you LOVE them!! :)

  18. Much More Than A Mom Says:
    January 27th, 2008 at 8:43 pm

    Awww, poor sick kid!
I love Eric Herman (and his invisible band is pretty cool too…)

  19. Robina Says:
    January 27th, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Poor Becca. Does she become the sweetest little thing when she doesn’t feel good? My daughter uses “mommy” before every sentence, and is just so sweet and cuddly when she isn’t feeling good! Now that I WANT her to feel bad, but I love the sweetness.

    My 4 year old loves Hannah Montana and Fergie (thanks to my 12 year old) she can sing “Ferglicious” all the way through! {{{{sigh}}}}

  20. Robina Says:
    January 27th, 2008 at 9:12 pm

And by the way, $900??? Holy Cow! But if it stays working for another few years, it will be worth it, right?

  21. Shannon @ Gabi's World Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 12:07 am

Okay! I know this isn’t really a band, but lately I have had the songs from Yo Gabba Gabba really stuck in my head! Maybe this one will help gets those out of my head!

BTW, Click Here to enter my giveaway!

My favorite two children’s bands are Raffi and Trout Fishin’ in America…they are older bands.
