Shhh Mommy’s Reading
So after having a fun family weekend, I could hardly wait to neglect everyone and read the last of the Harry Potter books. Wow. It was good. Very Harry Potter. I miss the series, but hope to read through from the beginning to end this fall. I look forward to sharing the adventures with Becca when she is a little older.
My children were wonderful being neglected. Becca would entertain Ethan and herself. It was blissful. I actually missed them when the story was done. I am a crazy reader. If the story is good, I enter it completely. I do not zone into it quite like a used to, since the kids still depend on me for survival. J would after be left in awe when I would get a new book and sit and read. Not moving except for nourishment, pee breaks and maybe a little sleep. The sleep truly was optional. Stephen King totally would take me to his world. The Lord of the Rings was also an amazing journey. The best quality of a story for me is the sweeping me away action.
I did take a break long enough to take the kids to the library yesterday morning. We spotted our friends there and enjoyed wasting away the morning surrounded by books and friends. In fact, said friends will be coming over today for a playdate. I am a little nervous as my house is not completely settled in, with boxes still packed and items still homeless. I figured no better time than the present though. Procrastination is something I relished in university and try to avoid in adulthood. So this morning I will be rushing through my home trying to make sure it is kid safe, somewhat clean and tidy.

I feel like I haven`t commented on your blog for ages, even though I have been sneaking peeks at work! I am taking a break from a particularly nasty translation so thought I would drop by and say hello! I read the book over the weekend as well and enjoyed it an immense amount. Like you, I am now thinking that I will have to sit down and re-read the whole series from the beginning and I am looking forward to the day that Joey gets into it! I am like you in that I get totally absorbed in a book and nothing (apart from Joey) can distract me! I was just glad that my parents were around over the weekend to indulge me, I doubt D would have been as understanding!!
I got the book Sat. morning at 6am, sucked it down like a drowning woman….Kids were thrilled because they could not lay one grubby finger on it until I finished. My 12yo finished it last night and we spent this morning in a huddle (my 10yo just started, didn’t want to give anything away) talking about our favorite parts….
I forgot to pre-order my HP so it’s coming today. I wonder when I’ll have time to read it??
Your new friend will understand that you’re not totally unpacked yet - you’ve just been there such a short time! Have fun!
Nothing like a good visit to make us clean, eh? I always invite someone over when I need extra motivation.
I sure wish I could immerse myself in a book like that - I made sure I did it a few times during pregnancy as I wasn’t sure when I’d get back into it again. Enjoy the moment!
Oh I am so jealous!! I have my copy of Harry
and while I could justify the neglect to my girls (they have been thru the last book with me) I would have a hard time justifying it to my friends/houseguests that are here. We then leave on Sunday to go to Winnipeg for a visit and my Mom is coming back for a visit. The forces are against me here
my hot little hards are burning to pick it up. Soon Harry soon!
I miss reading like that…I haven’t the patience or the heart anymore…
I really should get into it again..it calms me.
I reread all of the Harry Potter books last week in preparation - and still haven’t read the new one yet! I love getting the time to read.
hehe - I’m so like that with a good book!! Swept away …..
glad you were able to get some reading time in and I hope the playdate went well!
Holy cow girl!!!
you read that book already? It just came out!!! lol!!!
good for you!
So funny. I totally understand being swept away by a book…I love Ted Dekker and it’s hard to put it down once I started.
I am with you when it comes to reading a good book. I love Stephen King too and earlier in the month I read his short story “The Gingerbread Girl” in GQ. It is a great read and it was quite a surprise to find it. It looks like you are all settling in nicely. I love reading your blog and checking in on you and your family.
I feel so bad for not visiting in so long. And you have made it over to my blog so often recently.
I have totally been in my own little world this week, reading HP. I am almost done with The Order of The Phoenix, and I started The Sorcerer’s Stone on Saturday evening. I even read on the treadmill, which actually makes exercise so much more painless than music. It is like magic. The only issue is trying to hold a 700+ page book while I am walking. I have been staying up until Midnight or later and reading through the day too. I feel a little guilty, but we are still getting fed, washed and clothed. So I can’t be that behind on chores.
Have you heard of Gossip Girl?? There is a TV series coming out this fall, and there are 15 or so books so far in an ongoing series. It is a little on the teenager/high school drama side. But I am going to give it a whirl.
Jennifer Weiner is also a favorite author of mine. “In Her Shoes” and “Little Earthquakes” were great reads.
I admittedly have never read Steven King, although I have seen a few of the movies.
I’m so jealous about your playdate. I hope it went well.
You have children who allow you to read?
I’ve not got anything like that in my house. All grown-up reading these days takes place after their bedtime. Shucks.
So have you finished it yet? [I've read the dust jacket so far, but I'm not particularly bothered. As it's the last one, I want to really savour it]
Cheers
