Pics of the Day ~ Los Alamos Scenery ~
We have only been in Los Alamos a couple of days, so my thoughts are very premature. J & I are both feeling the effects of the drastic elevation change and trying to find our footing.
The skies are an incredible blue that has been long lost in the smog of California. The air is fresh and forestry. The hint of rain dances everyday after the sun has beaten down on the mountain.
There are three main roads. One that leads to the National Lab, one that has all the shops and another that takes you out to the golf course. If there are more “main” roads we have yet to discover them. The roads that are main routes seem to be cluttered with traffic, however nothing compared to Southern California.
It is glorious to witness so many people walking, riding bikes and chatting with one another. It is an odd sensation to tone things down, to want to slow down. In California I always felt so rushed and tense, yet here we are feeling awkward that the pace is your own.
In the post office the “Take a Number” is empty. The two postal officers call out “Who’s Next?” instead. Can you imagine the mayhem that would occur in Riverside if that were the system! We stopped by to hook up our utilities and the lady chatted away with us. Come to think of it we have not seen any bars on the windows or bullet proof glass to speak through … maybe we are hitting up all the wrong places … hehe.
I feel a tad overwhelmed. The moving company is holding our gear hostage till LATE next week * sigh * Since we have possesion on the townhouse, we are going to hit up a few garage sales on Saturday and see if we cannot score some gear to live there without our stuff. I am * trying * to have the “we are on vacation” mindset, except we have all the stress of hooking shit up and arranging stuff. I need my YARN darn it!
Ooooo we saw a bum! Darn it should have taken a picture! He was snoozing on the grass with his dog, with his gear around him. I hope he heads south for the winter ’cause we are told it gets chilly here.
Ethan is growing and changing so fast. He smiles at everyone and is trying so hard to be all tough guy standing (with support!), head control and attempting to sit. It is so cute. Becca is amazing. She totally self entertains herself, pretending she is a cat … hiding in closets and crawling on the floor. When she eats … “Cats don’t like rice” grrr So we have to approach it from a cat’s perspective to have compliance at times. She has had a few melt downs regarding not getting her way 100% of the time, yet seems to be getting through the transition. We took her swimming today and she is such a fish! Swims under water so well for being almost three. It is fun to watch.
I’ll let you know how the garage sales go …

OMG I am green with envy at how pretty and blue the sky is in your pictures. Reminds me of before we moved to California! ha!
When we moved to Spain, life came to a screeching halt and it was hard to adjust at first but I’m telling you, I would give a kidney to go back to the way life was there. Slow and relaxed. Enjoy it.
I’m sad you saw a bum tho.
Did the moving co. give you the option to come by and take a few boxes? When we moved here, they told us we could make one ‘withdrawal’ from our packing crate if we desperately needed stuff before the delivery date. You might want to call and ask. Worst they can say is no, right?
The sky is such a clear, blue color - wow. Nice pictures. I’m sorry about your stuff. That’s tough to have to wait. I hope it all works out really soon.
Your pictures made me think I should have been looking for jobs in the US rather than London because the weather has been consistently crappy since we got here!!!
Glad things are going well so far and that you have found a place you like. Hope the garage sales go well!
Yikes - why won’t they give you your stuff? How rude.
That looks like an AB/SK sky!
Gorgeous….Hope you find your footing soon…and get your stuff back!!!
pics look beautiufl!
wow, sounds like a place i would want to live, lol.
shitty about the movers,I’m not sure how you do it.
I am glad to hear that you made it to Los Alamos safely and hope things work out at the garage sales. Blue skies, busy Starbucks’ and everyone saying hello made me think that you guys landed up in Banff! Hahaha. Take care
PS: Ethan is adorable and is growing so quickly and Becca is as cute as ever!
Looks nice and peacful. Ugh that sucks the movers are keeping you on hold till next week, pain in the derierre (sp?). Good luck garage saleing. Enjoy the new pace, could be a nice change?
Wow! So the rumors are true. The sky is blue. Who da thunk.
YAY! I figured out how to comment!!! The pics are lovely! I remeber AZ and thos amazing blue skies! Shoot me your email so I can send you a folder of pix from your going away party!!!
While I’m sure the skys here look that way, it’s too hot to go outside and take a look. I miss skys like that though! And fresh air that smells like rain. *sigh*
The new journey sounds so exciting. I love the photos and I hope to see more of the area soon.
yay for blue skies and a slower pace. i think that you will find yourself liking it (at least i hope so!). and the elevation change, is that because you are now higher or lower than before? i am guessing higher.
