Weekends Rock!
Pic of the Day ~ Geek In Training Becca enjoying the Outdoors ~
Every Sunday, I escape the apartment and join my friend Marina for a few hours of knitting and chatting. It is a time we both hold sacred as it is a time without responsibilities, children, husbands (although we love them all!) and the world around us. A lot of talk is focused on knitting, but ventures to everything that affects our life. Knitting has made me a better person, in part because I now have such an amazing friend to share it with. This weekend we ventured from the norm and met on Saturday so we could hit a local bead shop to make Stitch Markers. I personally have never worked with beads before, so it took me a while to get the hang of it all. Thankfully Marina has done some beading and was able to steer me in the right directions. Oh Holly, it has been decided that you too with have to join us next time we hit the bead shop (and of course there has to be a next time!) For those not in the knitting know,
a Stitch Marker will keep your count if that is important, mark the beginning of a round, remind you to increase or decrease, or help with short rows. They are far from being an essential part of knitting, for a scrap piece of yarn tied in the right spot will do the trick, however making these is so much fun and they are way prettier than a piece of old yarn! We also were able to create our own for about half the cost! I have seen some beautiful stitch markers but it was nice to be responsible for the creation!
I returned home later than usual today. I am quite dedicated to always being home to tuck Becca in for her nap. It was difficult not to be there, but good too. For both Becca and I, I suppose. This new found liberation from my sweet daughter feels foreign and awkward at times. I forever will long to be close to her, I know this, yet there is comfort in knowing my love for her is secure in both our hearts. Yesterday was a prime example. Becca was confident that I would return, no abandonment issues with my kid! She behaved wonderfully for Erin and was so happy to see me return!
As a family we all went out shopping this afternoon. More to browse than to shop, but it was lovely to all be together. J has been putting a lot of hours into the lab as of late and Becca and I have been uber busy too. Amazing how life gets that way. All busy like. We did find some cool deals that we could not pass up. I bought 2 pairs of maternity pants … $3.50 EACH … umm and my butt fits in them!!! *insert shock here* J was in desperate need of pants so he too found a great deal on some jeans that make his butt look real good …. real good! May have to try to get a butt shot at a later date! hehe!
Tomorrow we are off to the Zoo Zoo Zoo … How about You You You? (Who sings that classic?)

I love the tshirt that Becca is wearing….
Those markers are really pretty! I’ve never been able to get into knitting.
I love that song! We sing it all the time in my classroom. Sounds like a great weekend!
Man you are just a girl on the go! I’m in awe of you.
I love those beads! I just learned the purl stitch so I’m working on perfecting both the knit and purl stitches now. I’m really enjoying knitting!
And patns for $3.50? That is quite the bargain…good for you!!
Hope you do not mind honey but I nominated you for a Spread the love award…
Raffi sings that song and we loveeeeee it!!!!!!
it’s nice to be away from them all once in a while…even though we love ‘em…we love ‘em more after we are away for a while…
I’m going to be singing that all day now!
Enjoy the zoo
I took some timeout yesterday minus kids too-was great!
Lovely beads! Hope you and Becca have a grand time in the zoo.
(((Hugs)))
I love those stitch markers and they look pretty easy to make.
Love the pics of little baby Ethan! He is handsome already, I can tell!
Glad you got to knit! I knit and LOVE it!
I wish I had your crafty-ness…Is that a word?
Glad you got some new stuff and CHEAP!!! That’s always nice!
I would *love* to come make some stitch markers. I’m going to be so embarrassed to use my oh so stylish itty bitty rubber bands in front of you now. Hang my head in shame.
Time without the kids, I believe, is important, too. Mine is between 12 midnight and 4 a.m.

I had a “me” weekend too (wrote about it today). We played a game this past weekend in which the lady asked the question, “If you knit or crochet move over one seat.” My friend, Debbie and I, just looked at each other and burst out laughing. Needless to say, we did not move!
I think I want to learn. I need a new hobby, and I did put on my goal for this year to “learn something new.”
I love Becc’a shirt - too cute! The stitch marker things you made with the beads are really neat-looking! and yeah, what a great deal on mat. pants that you found!
Your stitch markers are awesome! $3.50 for jeans? Wow, I need to take lessons from you!
I love her shirt too! And getting away with friends is so awesome. My closest hang out friend here is a good half hour drive so it’s tough to get together. Sweet deal on jeans too!!
That is the cutest t-shirt ever!!
