Pic of the Day ~ Becca the Bookworm ~

Becca the BookwormWhere does a toddler sleep who has an overactive imagination when the crazy loud severe wind storm knocks out the power? Why with her tired parents of course! Poor Becca, just when you think the problem might be easing up, the power goes out! *sigh* She slept most of the night with us last night then returned to her bed in the wee hours of the morning. I am at the point where I will try ANYTHING to get her to sleep at night. In the afternoon, nap time has little to no issues. We have tried leaving the door open, lights on, off, I will stand on my head if need be! My mantra “This too will pass, This too will pass”.

Becca and I babysat a friend’s son while J & said friends jetted off to see the Dad play in a a concert. Now some people may be thinking …. “Awwww poor Chelle had to stay home with the kids” …. Oh no no no! On the contrary Chelle was overjoyed to play with the kids, put them to bed and have a nice, quiet evening of knitting uninterupted! Ode to the days heading out to a concert would have been the cat’s meow. This pregnant Mama just wants a little peace before all hell breaks lose, the baby comes. Besides, babysitting meant me earning some yarn money! w00t!

Becca and I joined, JoAnne and Ryan at the park yesterday morning. The wind was cold and evil however the kids seemed completely unphased by it and played hard! I totally remember as a kid not allowing weather to really slow us down! It was nice to catch up with JoAnne, our schedules have been so crazy that we have had less opportunities to hang out, it is a bummer. We did in passing talk a little about the baby shower!!!!! We are thinking the first weekend in February March (we figured it be more fun closer to the due date! But not too close!)! I am so stinking excited it is silly!

My “To Do” list seems never ending. I am usually somewhat organized and timely with things and as of late I am finding it hard to return emails! I have been enjoying knitting, which does take me away from the computer, plus my evenings are totally shot with Becca’s sleep thing going on. I get really really anxious about the whole not having time to get it all done thing. So here I am at 5 am blogging and attempting to get things done. Not cool.

Thanks for all the supportive comments as of late. This little community is an amazing thing and I feel so lucky to know you all and be part of your lives, in an internet not stalking (well kinda) way. You Rock!

Ironically enough. SF doesn’t sleep in our bed, but I cuddle with her in hers whenever she needs it. I always say…she won’t need this forever, so I might as well enjoy it now. (No, I didn’t always say it, I learned to say it once I realized how quickly time passes)

  2. Caledonia says:

5 am? You should be sleeping! You have to take care of yourself first and foremost!

  3. Marz says:

Sorry about the power going out & sleep issues continuing. Hope they get better. Nate has had a couple rough nights last night & night before too, so maybe it’s the moon phases? Hope tonight is better for both of us!

  4. Holly says:

I say it’s the holidays. Between the wind and the crazy schedule lately, Jamie’s back to being tough too. And we had a huge fire last night on the grassland below us. Way too exciting to sleep.

  5. Deb says:

I can totally sympathize about the sleep issues. My toddler tries to slip into our room every once in a while.

  6. Jacquie says:

One thing my oldest DD has always liked at night is the radio playing softly. We have always put it on the country station (we are kinda a mixed bunch of music listeners in our house) but my DD is now 12 and she still will put on the radio at night. I so hear ya on the concert thing as our DD got tickets for a concert for x-mas and DH and I are almost resorting to drawing straws on who is taking her LOL (or trying to convince some older cousins that might enjoy the concert more than we would to go). But in the end it likely WILL be DH as I did Hillary Duff when I was 6 mths pregnant so hey he can do Billy talent right ;-)

  7. Aimee says:

I am impressed that you are getting anything done. I am pretty sure that I would just zonk out in front of the computer screen, or with knitting needles in my hands. :)

  8. Overwhelmed! says:

Oh, I’m sorry your having troubles getting Becca to sleep at night. I can sympathize. We’re at Oronzo’s parents house this weekend and last night I got NO sleep. Snuggle Bug was up crying several times and I was afraid of him waking the entire household so first I slept in the bed next to the crib, then I gave up and moved him into our room to sleep with Oronzo and I.

I hope Becca starts sleeping alone again soon.

  9. Momma Bee says:

Just playing catch up once again and wanted to say hi, let you know I’ve been thinking of you, and Happy New Year! Hope the sleep issues improve soon!!

  10. Awesome Mom says:

Woo hoo for quiet knitting time! Isn’t it crazy that now your idea of a wild time is being at home knitting. I bet your teenaged self would be confused at your change of heart. I hope that Becca gets over this soon.

  11. Michelle says:

I wonder if it’s just a toddler thing with the bedtime. I have absolutely no trouble with Kayla’s naptime…she rarely gets back out of bed once she’s down for a nap and is usually asleep within minutes. Nighttime has become quite the battle. She was put to bed at 830 and now it’s 10:00 – I think she is FINALLY asleep. This is after numerous times of both Joe and I going back to her room and putting her back in bed, telling her not to get out of bed, it was time to sleep etc. 5 minutes later she’s hanging out in her doorway. She’s not throwing a fit or crying or anything, or playing with toys (except her babydolls) she just won’t stay in bed. Sorry I had no actual advice for you – just wanted to let you know you are NOT alone with the nighttime frustration!

  12. Phoebe says:

    love the tunes

  13. Trish says:

I am glad to see that you are getting some knitting time, I am sure it relaxes you.

I hope the sleeping gets easier for Becca. She could be sensing the changes that are about to come. Be patient and I am sure it will work out.

  14. Monica says:

Oh my goodness! I remember a whole week when my middle one wouldn’t sleep. I was pregnant with my youngest and I swear I started wondering if I would ever sleep again. But we turned him around eventually. Hugs! You’ll get her sleepin’ at the right time I hope I hope soon for you!

  15. I can totally sympathize with you. I remember sleep issues and kids crawling into my bed. I remember being more tired with my second, third and fourth pregnancy too. Everything just seemed so overwhelming. I’m amazed that you can get anything done.

  16. Jenny says:

You’re not alone, sister. I feel your pain.

I’ll pour you a (virgin) cocktail if you get me a valium.

  17. Kristen says:

I think you seriously contribute to us eating sushi much more frequently than we ever have ; )

I know I’m sick but sometimes I actually wish I could put Leah to bed with us on occasion just because I want to be close to her, but then I know that would be opening a whole can of worms, so I don’t. Plus Tim says NO WAY every time I get that look in my eyes.

  18. Andie D. says:

Love the new look! I love all of your themes.

We had problems with Ben and going to bed too. What worked for us (just a suggestion) was a couple of things.

    1. Let him pick out a cool nightlight. We used a colored bulb (can get blue or pink @ Target) to keep the light low. Also made sure (through trial & error) to get a nightlight that didn’t give off too much light.
    2. Established a firm and constant bedtime routine.
    3. Created a chart (printed off a calendar from computer) where we drew a smiley face, star, dinosaur, whatever, every time he stayed in bed. Made a HUGE deal out of it – cheered, called grandma & grandpa, blah, blah, blah. When he got three in a week, we took him to the dollar store and let him pick out anything he wanted.

It took about a month, but it finally started working. And honestly, there were a few times that we hung out with him until he was as close to asleep as possible. Or even asleep. Hey, we’re human. ;)

P.S. You make me want to be a computer nerd in the worst way. My attempts are fun, but yours ROCK!

  19. Chelle says:

We had that “crazy wind storm” up here too! It was scary!

I like staying home on a quiet night too! :)

  20. Errr…we have two double bed put together & both my kids sleep with us. Bedtime has always been a battle :(
