Happy Thanksgiving!

Pic of the Day ~ Busted! No You Cannot Borrow Mommy’s Uggs! ~

Busted!Well it is sure quiet around the blogosphere, everyone jetting off or preparing for a big old fashioned turkey dinner. We are saving ourselves for Christmas, being more of turkey at Christmas folks than in November. Instead we have some bake-em-in-the-oven yummies and we are going to trim the tree tomorrow. It is approximately a week earlier than we normally put up the tree, but gosh darn it having a toddler gets one all excited about the holidays!

Becca keeps asking more and more detailed questions about Christmas. It is really cute how she is trying to make sense of it all. I can hardly wait to see her face tomorrow when we put up the tree and all the lights!

Part of the prize Becca won for being the absolute cutest in the Halloween contest arrived today! Our Walmart gift arrived just in time for me to join the insanity on what Americans call Black Friday. It is like our Boxing Day, starts early in the morning and the stores have crazy sales. I plan on ditching the cuties and taking off to Micheals to go yarn shopping *insert drool here* Who knew yarn shopping could be so lushious and joyful!?!?

I have all my Christmas cards out but a few and plan on sending out the gifts soon. I have some wrapping to do and a few last minute things to pick up and we are set! Just some baking and sit back and enjoy time! We have a Mom’s Club Winter Party to go to and that is about it for social obligations. I so adore not having to jet all over the place! But at the same time this season brings on the major home sickness for me.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday weekend and for my fellow Canadians it is not much longer till we get to feast on turkey, and all the other goodies!

Weeee LA Zoo and Travel Town!

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Pic of the Day ~ Becca, Chris and Marina at the LA Zoo ~

Becca, Chris and Marina at the LA Zoo Just when J thought my “imaginary” friend would never materialize, Marina and I took our kids out to the LA Zoo and Travel Town (a train museum). Marina is my knitting guru, the one I meet as close to weekly as we can manage to chat and knit. This was the first time our kids met! Unfortunately her youngest was under the weather and stayed back with his Grandma, but Becca and Chris really had a good time.

Becca and I had not made it to the LA Zoo so that was really cool to see. It is smaller than the San Diego Zoo and the animals are a lot more up close and personal! Becca walked a lot with Chris. It was very apparent that Chris is a good big brother, he was very compassionate and sweet to her, always looking out for her! It was adorable!

Travel Town was awesome. The kids, although tired, were able to climb into real size trains and explore. Then we all took a ride on the smaller train around the park, twice!

The drive home was a long one, but the day was really worth it. Becca and I had a wonderful time and look forward to hanging out with Marina and her boys again! I am so exhausted I can barely read the computer screen. It is early to bed for this girl!

One final note …. I wanted to do a Shout Out for Marina. She runs an online Yarn and Sewing shop, as well collaborates with other Work at Home Moms on another site. So go take a peak at Stitches Under the Sun and Club Thread Congo!

Sugar Sugar … OOo Honey Honey

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

Pic of the Day ~ High Style … Pink Tighty Whities, shoes on the wrong feet … You know you Love it!~

High Style ... Pink Tighty Whities, shoes on the wrong feet ... You know you Love it!Well actually no honey but eh the song keeps getting stuck in my head. I went for the dreaded sugar test yesterday. All went well, I knitted an egg while I waited … hehe. I also pre-registered at the hospital yesterday morning. It was quick and painless however, it reminded me how lost I feel here in the private system. I did not even know what floor the Maternity ward is on! I am going to have to call and see if we can have a tour or something. I kind of like to have a sense of knowing before the fact.

Becca was not feeling very well yesterday. She had a full melt down when having to leave Daddy’s office. J took her to work with him, while I was miserable at the sugar test. She was so tired and sweat like crazy during her nap, then seemed to feel better. Then today she took an three hour nap. Something she had not done in a long time.

The long nap gave me a chance to finish re-knitting a project. Don’t you hate it when you look at your work and just think, “Ugh No No NO!” rip it all out and start over?!?! That is what I did with the pants I am knitting for Becca. They look way better now and are all ready for the next step. Which my knitting guru will show me tomorrow morning!

An odd fact about my toddler. Becca likes to eat raw onion. Cooked onion, not so much, has to be raw. Ewww much? I guess I should be happy it is a vegetable.

Becca’s imagination is soaring lately. She climbs into a toy box, calls it her boat, goes fishing, tosses out random toys so they have to swim. It is really awesome to watch her go through the story. I so adore that she is creative and enjoys playing independently sometimes. She is such a cool kid.

Oh For the LOVE OF HUMANITY

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

Pic of the Day ~ Becca and her Beloved Old Navy Dog ~

Becca and her Beloved Old Navy DogI had a minor emotional meltdown last night. Totally acceptable considering I am pregnant and allowances should be made for this condition. Seriously, for the love of humanity why WHY does our health insurance keep getting canceled?!?!?!? This is the second time we have received a lovely letter from our health insurance company stating that our coverage ended LAST MONTH. *sigh* Now to be fair, in reality this means little. Any expenses occurred that should be covered is the liability of the university as J has a contract for said coverages, but really it is the mere IDEA that we are INSURANCELESS. ugh. J totally took care of it today and well we *should* have coverage by tomorrow. *sigh* There goes going for the sugar test. *&%$*%$*$*&%$*& This system is so STUPID! (no cut to Americans, you are all so sweet but really what is up with this private health insurance it is terrible!)

Now what shall a pregnant Mom do when feeling all homesick and bummed?!?! Why go shopping of course! Becca and I went out shopping this morning to the outlet mall. Becca was in desperate need of some jeans as all of hers are well now capris! She is growing like a weed! She is so TALL! I really should measure her one of these days! So we went on a bit of a shopping spree. We found so many good deals! Gap Outlet had T’s for $5 and pants for $3!! Somehow all those great deals added up, but I do not spree often for Becca and it was needed!

Although I have been working my tail feathers off, I still feel like my to do list is way too long. I am almost done the Christmas theme for this blog, I have almost caught up with emails, I have added the hooded towel tutorial to the list to do, and I have Christmas cards and gifts to complete. Phew. Now I need a nap after reviewing my to do list! hehe! I have been practicing a mantra … “It will all get done …It will all get done …It will all get done”

I almost FORGOT! J has a paper in SCIENCE that was released today!!! This is huge as it is a “mainstream” science journal! YAY J I am so proud of you!!! I have such a smart husband!!!

In Need of a Block Party

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Pic of the Day ~ Becca and Mommy Mirror Shot - Getting Ready This Morning ~

Becca and Mommy Mirror Shot - Getting Ready This MorningI have this silly dream. In my dream all the cool cats I have met online, either through gaming, work, or blogging all come to one big block party. Everyone would get a chance to chill out and watch our children play together and we could talk for hours about nothing important. How cool would that be? It is always so amazing to read about all your adventures, mishaps and life in general. Thanks for being part of my world, even if that means you are on the other side of the world!

Hey! Another big thanks to everyone that has signed up for my informal Christmas Card Exchange. I really look forward to sharing that with you guys! And do not forget about Betty’s Christmas Card Exchange, it is an amazing cause she supports.

I still have hundred’s of crazy things floating in my head. I have been able to knock a few things off the to do list, all the while still having a good time. Becca has sure changed over the last month or so. Traditionally my kid took forever to warm up at someone else’s house, clinging to my leg then slowly venturing out to play. Yesterday we went to Craft Day with our Mom’s Club and Becca raced in, and started playing right away!

It may have helped that she was the oldest kid there for the first 15 minutes or so. Whatever it was, it was super nice for me to be able to sew, chat and relax with some really cool Moms, all the while my kid is happily, non-violently, non-destructively playing with other children! I went to check on her way too many times, fearing the silence for trouble. Every time, Becca was simply playing happily. The house we were at had an amazing play room (yes an entire room dedicated to toys! Something we do not have in our shoe box!), so grand I had to bribe Becca to want to come home. Thank goodness we have a cat or Becca would have ditched this dive long ago!

Speaking of the Craft Day … we made the coolest hooded towels! I will have to make another and take pictures for you all. It was really simple and fun to do. I made two for Becca. They would make a great gift too! One of the ladies made hers into a dragon, it looked so cool!

Arg, back to running errands and trying to get a few things done … Oh I was relieved to read your comments on hibernating! I am so normal! Well that is relative I suppose :D
