Knitting Paradise

Written by Chelle on Wednesday
The Ugg Bootie

I have become a knitting fiend. I am constantly looking to the next project and adoring all the cute patterns and fun things to learn to do. When I saw these ever so cute Ugg Booties on DIY.com, I knew I had to knit them! I have just started the second bootie and it really did not take me long to finish the first! I am still working on Becca’s pants, in fact I started the first leg today! I posted a few pics in our flickr account.

Speaking of knitting. Becca and I headed to Marina’s house to play and knit! BeccaPlay Dough had a wonderful time playing with the boys. Her kids are so nice and cute! It was fun to be around two boys! She had snacks for the kids, and Becca had the opportunity to play with real play dough! hehe! I like the homemade stuff better. In fact, while Becca was snoozing, I made two fresh batches of play dough!

It was hellishly windy today. There were times while I was driving home that I could barely see through the dust and garbage! It was a little scary, but Becca stayed awake and kept me company.

Becca and napping. *sigh* The last few days she has been a little odd. I put her down for a sleep after lunch as always. She settles in then proceeds to chat and play with her animals for over an HOUR! I go in there and remind her that it is time to sleep and she whines a little then eventually settles down. This is all fine, except the kid still needs a good two hour nap, so she sleeps until 5 pm! Not good! I have no clue how to fix this. I am considering shifting her nap time a little later, maybe just enough so she is more tired?!?! She cannot give up MY quiet time I tell you. This is so not about her….It is all about me me me! Any ideas!?!?

If your really really good internets I will post some protruding, belly pictures for you by the weekend….

I love, love, love knitting booties and baby hats because they are so quick, it makes me feel so accomplished.

As far as the napping thing, I’m certainly no expert but I’ve found with Jacob and also have read in books that it has more to do with when they eat, so if you want her to nap earlier you should move her meal time earlier. Worth a shot! It works with J- the earlier he eats dinner, the earlier he wants to go to bed and the opposite is true, too. Good luck!

Those booties are awesome! Well done!

Belly pics? Already? You’re so fast. I’ve only been waiting five months!!!!!

Those booties are too cute!!! Evan used to do the nap fake out to me too. He still does now and then. I pushed his nap time later but it has been creeping back up lately. If he gets excited when I ask him if it is time for night night then I know he is ready. He will also crawl up the stairs on his own and wait for me to put him in bed.

Hmm… I think it might be a little different for becca because she doesn’t have to be up at a certain time, but what we did with aaron was make his nap time at 2pm. He sleeps from 7pm-7am and was taking two naps a day (11am and 3pm), but he likes to sleep for AT LEAST 2 hours. so we cut out the 11am and moved his afternoon nap up to 2pm and he sleeps til 4pm and three hours later, he’s ready for bed :-)

we pulled in a ’sleep specialist’ with Zee when we had issues with her doing the same. Playing instead of sleeping. The woman told me that this ‘quiet time’ is still restful and to let Zee play. She always drops off to sleep eventually and the woman said it’s the same as us chilling out watching TV or reading a book quietly giving our body a rest. Anyway this is what we were told, maybe it will help.

You can make your own playdough?!

Lily’s nap patterns are exactly the same as Becca’s. Some days she just doesn’t nap at all…Unfortunately, I hear, that this is the end of a beautiful napping relationship!!!! EEEK~

    very cute!!!
Yikes, I tried my hand at making play dough a while ago. I scrapped that whole project & went out & spend $2 on play dough, lol. It was so sticky & terrible to work with, unlike the store bought stuff which also smells nice.
Nate has given up nap time a long time ago, which is fine with me because now we don’t fight at bed time anymore. Maybe Becca only needs naps some days & not others. This is how Nate started. At first he gave up naps on the weekends & then he would nap less days during the week & now finally not at all.

That’s so neat that you’re loving your knitting. I wish I had the time to do this. Instead, I need to make time to clean my house. :)

I don’t know what to tell you about Becca’s naptime issues. Snuggle Bug sometimes does the same thing, plays for 30-60 minutes before going to sleep and then naps too late. I’m with you though, there’s no way Snuggle Bug is going to get out of his nap time because I need that quiet time. Sometimes it needs to be all about you and not your child. :)

I hope you post belly pictures! I’d love to see them.

I’m inspired. I want to take up knitting. I have a bunch of yarn, I even have two knitting needles. I think there might be a book around here somewhere? But, I know it takes time and patience - two things I don’t have! You are so inspiring!

Thats so cute!!!! I want some of those for the babies! I noticed you’re 20 weeks, half way there ♥ Hope you’re feeling well :)

I have to tell you that Travis took his last nap at 2 years old…it was hard for me! I still made him have a quiet time of an hour or so each day where he could read or watch a movie in my bed. At first he was a bear, but he would go to sleep at 7:00 p.m. which totally rocked! Good luck to you!!

I love the booties…they are adorable! And your new blog design is so cute…I love it!!!!

  17. Tsoniki, on November 30th, 2006 at 9:15 pm Said:

    The booties will be awesome!

My kids are the same way - lay there talking for an hour before falling asleep (or reading, playing, etc.). I wouldn’t worry. Um, that’s just me though. LOL I feel like they are still resting and as well as they stay in their room, I still get the oh so coveted me time (seriously, I’ve been crazy lately!). :)

Hey ‘Chelle! I am soooo behind on my blog reading so I just caught up with the past few entries. I hope Becca’s cold is better, I am super happy to hear how well things are going with the new little one (and am looking forward to belly pics - hehehe), and I did get my card in the mail :) As for the wind - I can kind of relate because I went out to the mountains on the weekend and the wind was insane - blowing snow everywhere and making it nearly impossible to see :S But we made it back safely to Calgary. . . where we had temperautres of -27 (-17F if you forget the Celsius scale :)) with a windchill of -41 (which is -42 Fahrenheit!!!!). It is *hot* now, with windchills of *only* -10. Whew! Any time you miss Canada, just think of the reality of FREEZING temperatures in Alberta! ;) Bye for now!

I can’t WAIT for the belly pics!

I hate to say it, but it sounds like Becca may be on her way to giving up nap times. This is how it started with Ben. Although he was less about playing and talking in bed and more about yelling, screaming, and throwing things. Fun times.

You may want to consider keeping her “naptime” at the same time it’s always been, but getting her up two hours later, no matter how long she’s actually slept.

Sometimes it’s just that they are so excited about everything that’s going on, all they are learning, that it’s hard for them to wind down. If you keep with her schedule, she may go back to a regular nap. And you will hopefully avoid any nighttime battles.

I like knitting and learnt it from internet. Once I started knitting my mom started knitting too :D But I prefer seeing the demonstration of knitting itself from this link for the example

  21. Michelle, on December 1st, 2006 at 2:07 pm Said:

Kayla used to do that at nap time too. This was when she was still in her crib, she would talk away and play until she finally fell asleep. When I moved her to the toddler bed it was “worse” because she could get out of bed - I knew in the crib she would eventually lay down and go to sleep, but if she was free to get out of bed she would play with all the toys in her room.

So what I started doing was first sitting by her bed, after a few days I moved to her doorway, a few more days to the hallway. I would just sit there and not talk to her, but she knew I was there. If she tried to sit up I would just say “lay back down.” Because she couldn’t get up and play around her body would finally allow itself to just lay there and fall asleep. Now I just leave the room and she completely falls asleep on her own within minutes. Good luck!
