I am calling in Sick!
Pic of the Day ~ Becca at the LA County Fair ~
Yup that’s right, you read that correctly. I am taking the day off and I am just going to be sick. I am going to stay in bed, blow my nose constantly, watch bad daytime television and just be sick.
I am NOT going to have a snotty, sick toddler hanging on me, whining “Moooommmmmyyyyyy”! No one is going to need me. Supper is not being cooked and darn it the floor is staying unvaccummed!
No potty breaks, no stories, JUST ME ME ME ME ME! The laundry is going to pile up, there will be no painting, and lunch forget about it!
Wait. Stay at home Moms, cannot call in sick. There is no time off, no one to cover their shift and no compensation for missed time. Instead we pull our sick, snotty noses out of bed, suffer through the day with the help of our good friends the Wonder Pets and Madagascar.
J took Becca with him to work this morning. He hooked her up with some videos to watch on the computer while he ran some NMR’s and did other chemistry things. All the while, I toss and turn attempting to sleep, while breathing through my mouth and blowing my over pressured nose every 4 minutes.
Today was day 2 of sick hell. I am not a great get sick person to begin with, but having no drugs at my disposal and a toddler that is on the mend from the same cold was just too much this morning. Thankfully J has the type of job that he could take the kid for a while. We are so far and isolated from family that is not an option and friends, it is hard to ask you know?!?! They have their own things going on and my kid is still a little sick, I can’t be sending her to someone else’s house to share the plague cold.
I think I am on the up swing. I showered this afternoon and that made a world of difference. It is just a head cold that has not moved to my chest so I am alright there. UGH! A week and my Dad arrives from Canada, I only have a MILLION things to get done!
As a side note I am done the knitting part of Becca’s sweater!!!! I still have to block it (esentially hand wash it and shape it) but I am a little nervous since I have never done this before. Once that is done, I sew the buttons on then I will get Becca to model for you!
I am off to drink tea and snuggle up … How do you feel better with a cold (and no drugs dudes the Little Bear is happy without them!)?

Oh, how I feel for you. All I did was chamomile tea, followed by hot water & honey because I didn’t want too much herbal tea even though it’s supposed to be safe. Hot baths, inhale lots of steam. Tell J that a good facial and scalp massage works wonders as well.
Congrats on being so close on Becca’s sweater! My baby group is having a learn to knit at one of the other mom’s houses in a few weeks so I get to make a scarf. Could be interesting! I can already crochet and cross-stitch, but knitting is scarier.
I know what you mean about wishing you could call in sick! Sorry to hear this has knocked you for a loop; thank goodness J could take her in to work so you could get a little break. I hope you’re feeling better soon!
When I was pregnant with Bailey a friend made me a sock filled with rice that I could put in the microwave for a few minutes and drape around my neck or in later pregnancy on my lower back. The warmth helped to ease the headache and achiness associated with colds. I still use it to this day. Hope you are feeling better soon. Can’t wait to see the sweater!!
Sometimes I think getting an outside job would be worth it jsut to escape on sick days. LOL
Being sick with a toddler reinvents the meaning of the word suck!!! I am jealous of my SIL because when she ran a fever recently her Mum flew up to Tokyo ( a 1hr40min flight) to spend the week with her and help take care of my niece. When I get sick, there is nobody I can ask to do that! It is alwys those times that make me wonder what I doing so far from my family!
I hope you feel 100% better soon!
I have been there too. Just wait until you get sick with two little kids. People diss TV but it sure helps in times like this.
I’m so sorry you got sickly. It’s terrible that you can’t take any meds.
Thank goodness that J can take Becca for a while…Rest up and gather your energy. You’ll be better in no time.
hug.
Awww… I sure hope you’re feeling better today. I had it bad but it doesn’t sound like it was as bad as yours. Hopefully this was your worst day & it’s only uphill from that.
Take care of yourself & your little “teddy bear”
Aw, Chelle. I thought you were for real. I thought maybe you sent Becca somewhere for the day, like to a babysitters or something so that you really could “call in sick”
Bummer. I was all happy for you, then I realized you were just being facetious.
And yeah, I guess it isn’t fair to ship her off somewhere so she can spread her germs around.
Hope you both feel better soon.
I hope you feel better hun, take it easy and we will be here when you get back.. feel free to take Thurday’s Trivia Challenge when you feel up to it!! Even if it is later this week!
Oh, I know the feeling, Chelle! It’s so hard to be sick when you have a little one. I do not know what I am going to do now if that happens to me.
Get better soon!
Awww poor you, it is never fun being pg and sick. Yeah to you J for taking Becca and giving you some time to just be, good for him. We are far from family also, well my Aunt lives here but she kinda has an aversion to changing poopy diapers which usually results in my youngest DD getting a “no poop” lecture when we leave
Hope you feel better soon.
yupp .. it’s flu season .. i am kinda sick too .. well given that it’s ramazan (the holy month) .. so we all fast .. but i hope i dont get a cold. Lots of fluids is the key .. hope u feel better
ohhhhh….hope you’re feeling better real soon
Oh, so sorry to hear you’re still sick. Hope you’re on the road to recovery. It’s tough on SAHM, always on duty 24/7. Good that J has a flexible arrangement. Take care dear.
Oh no! Sorry to hear you are sick. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to be pregnant with a toddler AND sick. Good thing your husband could take Becca for a while. Hope you feel better soon!
Uh, I just realized that I said you were pregnant with a toddler. That didn’t sound right, but you know what I mean!
Sending you some virtual chicken noudle soup :)get well hun
and yes on most days i do know how to spell noodle lol
That is the one downside of being a stay home mom…no sick days to take!! Hope you are feeling better soon!!!!
feel better sweetie!
awww I feel for you Chelle. Chicken Soup! Chicken Soup! That will make you feel a little better. That was so nice of J to take Becca away for the day:-)
WOW! Doesn’t it suck? people think SAHM’s have it so easy, yet we have a 24 hour job and have to deal with it no matter how tough things are or how sick we get. Thanks for coming by my blog:)
Poor baby, I feel for you. I had the same thing last week. When I was preggo I used nasal spray just at night so I could sleep. The dr said it was ok on occasion.
Hope you feel better by the weekend.
Glad your wonderful hubby gave you a break. Hope you feel better soon!
