What to do with a Sick Toddler

Written by Chelle on Friday

Pic of the Day ~ Becca last week at the Zoo with her Daddy

The last couple days have been so crazy! With all the excitement of Becca’s canceled surgery then Becca got ill. Yesterday morning Becca got up and started complaining she felt cold. J & I took turns snuggling her then she appeared fine, ate a good sized breakfast of scrambled eggs with some milk, then she burped really loud. I giggled and said “Wow that was a big burp, what do you say?” Becca looked at me and was about to smile, instead she starting puking. She would puke, take a step back puke again and repeat. All the while I stood there staring at her. I did not move. I did not speak. I stood there staring at my puking child. Now I feel slightly idoitic, however my sweet husband believes (or so he tells me) that it was best to do nothing, say nothing to allow the natural process to occur.

In my defense, Becca has had only two occasions when she has vomited. The first incident was on J so I had nothing to deal with there but take baby after puke moment. The second occasion, occurred on the freeway so we did our best to clean up after the fact. So I have very limited experiences with a vomiting child. My cat gets nasty hairballs or vomits when annoyed (jerk!) but I do not hesitate to grab the little monster and put him on the tile floor. I am thinking, grabbing a toddler in mid-vomit would not be so easy.

The cure for sick kid. Couch rest and lots of fluids. The vomiting stopped after the one time (thank goodness, me being pregnant and smell sensitive not so good), however the other end did not fair so easily. Remarkably Becca did not have one accident the entire time, even with crazy bum! Becca has officially watched more television in the last 48 hours than she has all summer!

What does Mommy do while watching repeats of Dora and Wonder Pets? While snuggling up with Becca on my lap, I designed a new theme :) I hope that Chocolate and Pink is all the viewing pleasure you can handle. I really enjoyed putting this theme together and challenged my designing in some new ways. If you find something to be awry or plain weird, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Oh and do not worry Becca is already on the mend, playing up a storm this evening and we even went swimming this afternoon. I have a theory it has something to do with those crazy molars that are trying to break through in her mouth….Teething sucks.

Any crazy plans this weekend?? I am living vicariously through you so come on share :)

Did you know that these are my favourite colours?! If we ever have a little girl, she will be head to toe in chocolate & pink, and so will her room! Well done!

Love the new design…I love brown and pink!!

So sorry Becca was sick…tummy bugs are the worst!! We have a “puke bowl” and I keep it in a handy spot in the kitchen. If there is even a sign of puke I’m off to fetch the bowl and I have to say between the 2 kiddos I’ve gotten pretty quick at it!! There’s not much worse than cleaning up after that!! Glad to hear she’s better though!!!

    I love the choco/pink combo!!!

    I hope Becca feels better!!!

We’re going to try to go to Trader Joe’s, have the two dings in our windshield fixed, and then watch some movies. Might visit El Bux somewhere in there. So, yeah, not technically “crazy plans” but that’s all i’ve got yo. ;)

It’s horrible to watch your child feel so sick. Thankfully, she is doing better.

I like the look of your new design. I had a friend who was just married and her colors at the wedding were chocolate and pink. It was beautiful!

    I love the chocolate & Pink…my two faves together…

So sorry Becca is sick…seems that she has what Lily had..Some technicolor yawns and doodie central…Hope she feels better soon.

I’m still smiling about the eye surgery, by the way!

The new design looks great! Glad Ms. Becca is doing better. Don’t feel bad; I do the same thing when my toddler throws up, I just stand there.

Mmmm. . .chocolate. . .Great new look for the blog Chelle!
Glad to hear that Becca got better quickly :)

    I love the new theme!

Grabbing a toddler mid puke has become second nature for me. Evan was a puker when he was an infant and while we were getting him off the tube we were agressivly stretching the limits of his tummy and sometimes went too far. I am glad that Becca is on the mend and feeling better.

I also love the look on Becca’s face in the pic you posted…too cute!

Glad to hear she is feeling much better already!

So sorry to hear that Becca has been struck with a stomach bug. Those are never any fun! We’ve experienced the projectile vomit with Snuggle Bug and I’ve been puked all over in the middle of the night more than once. Not fun! I hope Becca’s feeling better soon!

Thanks for your comment on my Pizza Box meme post! Parts of my childhood were awesome, parts were not. C’est la vie!

I too am scared of kids vomitting, not much experience with that, thanks goodness. Glad to hear she’s better. Ah yes, now I understand why the new template :)

We were at a wedding this past weekend…

My 2 year old pukes constantly (4 times already today) so I’m used to the puking. I just let him puke then clean it up.

I’m so sorry you and becca got sick. I hope everyone is feeling better.
