The Upcoming Eye Surgery

After Monday’s drama and the insurance company, blah blah blah, we saw Becca’s eye specialist this morning. I have thought about how to tell all of you all day. The results she shared with us are so overwhelming, I cried the entire trip home. Becca’s eyes have improved dramatically over the last three weeks. In fact, they have improved so much that her vision numbers put her in the no surgery category. Becca read from the kids chart and her eyes are equally strong and improved thanks to her glasses! It was the first time Becca did really well reading the chart. The chart, much like an adult chart, consists of symbols (ie house, hand etc) and is displayed on a screen across the room. Normally the specialist only tests 3 years and up this way because under 3 year olds have difficulty with the concept. Becca rocked the chart naming everything even when the doctor covered one eye!!

Ok so in case you missed it in all that jazz up there ….. *fireworks to go off now* *huge marching band with loud music cue* Becca’s eye surgery has been CANCELLED!!!! My heart had totally skipped a beat when the eye specialist said that she believed that Becca’s eyes have improved to the point where surgery would not be necessary!!!!

My baby’s eye muscles do not have to be snipped and sewn on in a different place!!!! To say I am relieved is an understatement. I have already set up a trip to the LA County Fair during what would have been her recovery time! I so so so did not expect this. The doctor had mentioned last time there was a slight chance that Becca’s eyes would improve to the point that surgery would not be needed. However, I never ever thought that would come true. I was so prepared emotionally to see Becca through this. Now we can take a big breath, release all that energy and just enjoy the end of the summer. Oh and our blackout dates for Disneyland …. over!!!! Happy Happy Day …. *off to dance and read blogs … *

Thanks for your comment on my How do you cope when a child goes down the wrong path in life? post.

I appreciate you sharing your insights. As for your question, she’s saying she wants to go into rehab, it’s not certain as to if she’s just willing to do whatever it takes to stay out of jail or if she sincerely wants to get better.

Time will tell, I guess.

You know what else makes that story cool? I could feel your excitement from all the way over here in Kansas. That means that Becca sure could feel your relief and comfort and overwhelming pride and excitement too! That means that you’ve already given her a huge sense of PRIDE and relief and she’s already learning from you that people can work through tough situations and come out elated! You are SUCH a good mommy!!! 8)

How happy for you and your daughter. Eye problems are no fun.

I had eye surgery at age 4. One of my eyes was crossing and they shortened the muscle, which enabled me to control my eye and avoid the double vision problem. I had to wear glasses for ten years. The surgery was a success. I’m now 40 - no glasses, no contacts.

I’m so happy for you guys, especially little Becca. *Hugs* to you two.
