Rainy Days
Pic of the Day ~Becca, Mommy & Lion
It was a dreary, depressing day in California. I have to admit, I much prefer the hot sunny days in California. It just doesn’t seem right to see cloudy skies here.
Becca had a doctor’s appointment this morning. It was kinda a last minute thing. You may have noticed in some of Becca’s pictures that her one eye is a little lazy. *sigh* The doctor is sending us to an eye specialist believing Becca has strabismus. Strabismus is:
…a disorder in which the eyes do not point in the same direction. It typically involves a lack of coordination between the extraocular muscles which prevents bringing the gaze of each eye to the same point in space, preventing proper binocular vision, which may adversely affect depth perception. The cause of strabismus can be a disorder in one or both of the eyes; for example, nearsightedness or farsightedness, making it impossible for the brain to fuse two different images. Thanks to Wikipedia
I am pretty upset about the whole thing. J & I both noticed a few months ago. I mentioned it to the doctor in January and he told me to monitor it for a few months and if it continued…well if anything it is getting a little worse. Poor girl. Least invasive treatment, a patch over her “good” eye to help strengthen the “weak” eye. Worse case scenario surgery (probably not though), more than likely, my baby is going to have to wear glasses. I know it is not the end of the world and there are some really cute kids that wear glasses. I am just vain and do not want my daughter to have to wear glasses. More importantly, how does one convince a toddler that glasses are cool and should be worn all the time? Our appointment is not until we get back from Canada, so I guess I get to worry about it till then.
Becca and I had a wonderful afternoon. I bought her a little hardcover “journal” and some stickers at the dollar store yesterday. Today, we worked with the stickers, Becca LOVED IT! She totally got excited to take the stickers and stick them to the pages. It was not long before she would ask “Sticker, Stick Please!” it was so adorable. Then she took a crayon and scribbled on the page and said “Tree”!! I was so proud!! I think I may have created a sticker addict!!!
As you can tell I finished the new theme a little early!! I was hoping to finish it before the weekend ended, but I finished early!! I call is “Dancing Star”. I love the Nietzsche quote and ofcourse Becca is my little Dancing Star!! Let me know if there are any weird quirks! Enjoy!

Your beauty is precious and adorable. If she has to wear the patch, teach her that pirates are cool. There are so many great pirate books. I’ve heard the surgery is not so bad. I think glasses on children make them look innocent intellectuals.
Your new design is looking pretty snazzy!
I have worn glasses since I was 3 its ok………………
she will be a cutie
Thanks Guys! I guess I am freaking because there is something “wrong”, just makes me sad.
We will just have to get cute glasses if that is what it takes!
It will be alright. When we I lived at home, I lived next to a kindergardener who had glasses. And she was just the cutest little thing. And she left them on. I guess since she started with them so early, she got used to them.
hehe, stickers. I remember collecting them.
Cool new layout. I really like it. I actually took a look around before I read your new entry.
There is one glintch though. The commenting box is apprx. twice the length that it should be. But the screen isn’t. So fo about half of theof this I am typing blindly. I hope that I spelled things OK. LOL
Hi Chelle, love your new theme. It’s a little hard to see the black type in the borwonbox here, and yes it does disappear into blog oblivion off to the right. Love the photos down the side…and the quote. I am a quote hog. Good for you to be able to do this yourself. I’ve paid someone for a redeux of my blog.
Hi guys…thanks for the comments on the theme. I “hope” I have fixed the issues you have mentioned!!
Awww… poor baby. If she does have to wear glasses, I’m sure she’ll look adorable… and there are really cute kid size glasses out there these days.
PS. Forgot to mention, your design’s looking really nice!! I haven’t noticed any glitches at all.
Good job!
Nice new theme
Hey honey! boy can I relate to Becca. I have the same thing in my left eye. It has always been termed a lazy eye. I had to wear a patch as well, but they started me at a year.. so i prob didnt notice it as much as becca will. I also ended up with glasses as a result, starting at 18 months.. In my case it was a good thing.. mom says i was less clutzy and seemed to grow suddlenly smarter (cuz i could see things clearer thus answer questions better)
i still have some issues, when im REALLY TIRED my left eye will not focus on what im looking at, and i still have problems with depth perception, and I cant see in 3d.. all in all doesnt affect me much!
I love the new theme - very cool!
Hopefully it will be an easy fix for Becca. An eyepatch is a perfect into for teaching her about pirates!
Hey sweetie.
Of course you alerady know I love your new theme but I have to say it again!I love the pics you chose for the side.
I hate it when there is something wrong with our little munchkins & it’s beyond our control. I think Becca will look adorable with glasses.
Good luck!
I don’t think it is possible for Becca to NOT be adorable!! Glasses might not be as bad as you think; I totally wanted to wear glasses when I was a kid because I thought they made you look cool. I actually remember one day sitting close to the TV hoping that would help make my eyes “bad”. Crazy, eh?
(OK Jason, stop laughing!)
Anyway, your new theme is great - I love the pics you chose for the border
Hmm … a Nietzsche quote on your blog. I’m not sure if my brain is ready to process that yet. Glasses totally rawk!!! But I know it may be hard to convince her of that.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new theme! It’s totally cool.
OMG, I LOVE the new look!! I wish I could find a way to incorporate my kids pics into a layout! You’re awesome!!
As for the eye issue, hang in there. She’ll get used to them and it will be fine! There’s always the chance it could correct itself as well. My friend’s child had strabismus and it corrected itself after about a year and a half in the glasses. Good luck!
Whoa totally loving the new design. Could I talk you into designing for me???
I love the new look. You’re sooo creative. Please send me some of your creative spices!
Becca in glasses, patch whatever works. She’s still a cutie pie!
[...] I have previously mentioned that Becca is experiencing eye problems (you more than likely have noticed in some of her pictures). This morning we finally had our appointment with the eye specialist. *takes a big breath….* [...]
