Can you concentrate better with music or in silence?

I left my response in her comments:

Before motherhood, raging loud music…Now that I have a toddler, silence is golden!

I used to love sitting at my computer, reading a book, studying, driving, you name it all while listening to tunes; usually the louder the better. Now that I have entered into Motherhood, when all is settled and the little monster angel is sleeping I bask in the wonders of silence.

There are times, when designing or attempting to draw that I will turn ITunes on and listen to some Coldplay, or another really mellow band. However, more often than not, I am happy to sit in silence. I still really enjoy music in the car, however it is now the “Lil People’s Soundtrack” that I am listening to rather than Kid Rock, NIN or Green Day. Mind you Becca has an aversion to all heavy music, she gets all freaked out and cries, which is rather upsetting, so I just do not listen to it anymore.

Pop music she likes, so we will listen to Black Eyed Peas, or Gwen Stephani, but really there is only so much of that I can stomach in one sitting. We have not exposed her to Country music yet, although that is more due to my fear that she will like it and I will have to endure hours upon hours of twang twang twang.

J loves to introduce new music to Becca. When she was very tiny and very anxious in the evenings only the Beatles and Daddy’s cuddling would settle her. He listens to ABBA and other’s with her, sharing his love for music (hopefully I have not planted the seed for him to introduce country *shudders*)
Now I wonder, have your music tastes changed after becoming a parent? Do you listen more or less? Am I doomed to listen to Dora Soundtracks, Blues sings the Blues, Elmo Screeches? Oh Geez….She is going to become a teenager that loves boy bands and Britneys!!!!! I think I will enjoy the silence while I can!

As for Becca news, we had a quiet day. I have been trying to be creative so she watches tv only in the morning just after breakfast. So we went out to get some supplies for supper, then Becca played in the sink while I prepared dinner in advance to reheat in the oven later. After her nap, we played and played!! hehe I love playing with her and discovering her hidden talents as they emerge!

Have you ever had one of those days that just seems to last forever? Have you ever noticed that those days are directly correlated with how tired you are??

I am not really complaining per say. It was a great, fun packed, creative day for Becca & I. We played in the sinks with water and the turkey baster, we played outside, we played with her blocks, we played with her toys all before LUNCH! After nap time we read books, played on her bed, made a fort out of blankets, pretended with teddy bears, coloured, played in water again, played & played. This mommy is PLAYED out!!

Now you may think, well all that playing would tire anyone out, and your right! However that is not the end of this fine story! Becca had “issues” last night. Usually my sweet angel goes to bed no problem. Last night, being all wired and no nap after snow day, Becca had troubles staying asleep. All was quiet until around 10 pm….then out of the blue Becca starts to cry, and I am not talking cry in your sleep then settle back down….OOooo no I am talking blood curdling screams of pain and anguish! J & I rush to our poor daughter’s side, prepared for anything….Yeah the turkey kept us by her side for hours!!! I do believe she was upset, but definitely not dying! Finally just after midnight, I dragged my butt to bed and she finally settled down for the night. It is so not like her to be all upset like that at night.

Becca did sleep until 8:30 this morning, after last nights adventures . I however, was still a zombie, but determined to have a fun, creative, productive day. And we did! Makes me feel really good about my Mommyness!!!!

OMG! Becca & I had so much fun today!!! Snow Days in California Rock! We started off the day by being picked up by Joanne and her cute son Ryan and drove up to the mountains! We met up with the rest of the group (super great people!). Becca was the youngest “walker” there! There was another baby, however his Mommy kept him all snuggled up in a wrap (it was so cute)!

Becca had a BLAST in the snow!! I wasn’t sure how she would react to the cold stuff, but she is a Canadian girl at heart! She loved keeping up with the big kids (all under 5 but big to her)! We walked through the woods looking for a good spot to sled. We found the perfect little hill for 4 and under sledders and Becca loved it!! She kept saying “Snow! Kids! Snow! Slide!” It was delightful! I took her the first couple times down on the sled with me, then she even went down on her own a couple times!!!!!

After sledding we headed over to a cabin with a porch (big thanks to whoever owns the cabin, we enjoyed your porch and picked up after ourselves!), we had some lunch then headed home. Well, not really…we took a scenic route to get home, only to discover the highway to get home was CLOSED!! So we turned around and headed back the way we came. It was nice to chat with other Mommys & watch Becca interact with the other kids!

We got home a little late, J had already begun to worry! He is so sweet to be concerned! I quickly reheated the pasta and we had dinner together. Wow, what a great day!!! I am soo tired!! I am heading to bed early!!

We did not join the Mommy group today, it was too far, however we are going to go for a SNOW DAY tomorrow! lol! Only in California can you wear shorts one day and then go sledding the next (well it was a little chilly for shorts but you get my drift)! One of the ladies in the group said that we could car pool and that she had extra snow stuff for Becca to wear!!! I am so excited! I hope it all work out! We had to cruise over to Kmart tonight to buy Becca some shoes. Robeez in the snow, not such a good plan!! We found some sute Dora the Explorer running shoes that should keep her toes warm! We also bought some cheap mittens!! hehehe! I can hardly wait for tomorrow!

Becca helped me do the laundry and clean the house today. While we were out taking items to the dryer, the nice girls from next door asked if Becca could play with them. It was so cute, they skated around on their roller skates and Becca RAN after them, then would take off so they would chase her! They are such sweet girls. I brought out a beach ball to toss around, and Becca had a blast having their attention!

Once Becca was up from her nap, she played in the sink for an hour & a half!!! Crazy kid! She gets it from her Dad, my Mother-in-law said that she would have to refill the sink, because J would spend so long playing in the water, it would get cold!! hehe!

Becoming a Mommy has been an awesome experience for me. I am a better person now that I am a Mommy. I am kinder, gentler, more patient and even prettier! However, there are those moments in a Mommy’s day when you think….”Damn I used to be cool”! I would not trade being a Mommy for anything, however when I read this article on CBC, I started to reminisce….How cool would have been to go to a concert with a over a million other people?!?!? I have seen the Rolling Stones in concert (with my Dad, how cool is that?!) and they rock! (Hey Marz…Kid Rock Detroit…Ooo the Coolness!) I used to love saving up all my tip money and cruise off to a concert, or find a local band playing at a dingy night club. lol! How much do you want to bet the next concert I go to will be “Dora the Explorer Sings!”?? *sigh* the “Good Old Days”….

A recap of our day….Stocked up at Costco, then ate pancakes for lunch (mmm) then J went to work, Becca napped and I stared at my computer screen, attempting to be creative. Did I get anything accomplished you ask? Nope absolutely nothing and Becca even had a long nap!!! Then we watched Madagascar (because 50 times is not enough!), had some dinner then Becca played in the sink!
