Sometimes it is Better to Stay in Bed

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Pic of the Day ~ Becca down right dirty! dirty becca

There are days, when you know as soon as you wake up, that it really is best to stay in bed. I awoke this morning feeling icky and knowing, just knowing it was going to be a bad day. Never a good way to start a day .

I drove in the rain, across town at 8am, lovely morning rush hour, to get to my dentist appointment. I sit in their pretty little waiting room and fill out my paperwork. I wait & wait…finally the receptionist calls me to the desk, only to inform me that my insurance has been canceled and to feel free rebook the appointment once I have insurance!!!

I cruised back home in tears (remember I told you I felt icky…that included emotionally). I walk in the house and cry more because I am crying about the dentist. J quickly gets ready for work, so he can get to the bottom of it….

Ummm….yeah we have been living in the US without any health (or dental) insurance for the last MONTH!?!?! The university “accidentally” cut us off, without informing anyone & proceeded to attempt to reinstate the insurance before we discovered it was missing!?!?! J tried to get to the bottom of it on his own and made no head way, so he told his boss what was going down. His boss went all freaky on the Chancellor’s ass, informing him that the university is liable for any medical costs incurred while this “accident” was unfixed!! We now have insurance back dated to the beginning of the month. However, I still wasted my morning going to an appointment that I could not go through with.

I can’t help wondering what the hell would have happened if we would have really needed to see a doctor. Paying for medical care in the US would have devastated our family. And sure they say that the university would have been liable for any cost we would have incurred, but how the hell would we have gotten the money from them. This American system is whack! No insult to all the fine Americans, but damn your health care system is nuts.

On to the warm and fuzzy things of my day. Becca was an angel all day (until Daddy came home, then she turned into a holy terror!), which was nice for me. We vegged out in the morning, enjoying Dora and snuggling. I needed snuggles! After Becca’s nap we went outside to play. Mommy forgot that the kiddie pool would be full of rain!! After an hour, both Becca & I were soaked!! It was fun to watch her play at the pool (until she would climb in!!) We also built some riverways once I dumped the pool!! Do you remember doing that as a kid??? I do!! And today it was sooo fun to do with Becca!! The water flowed great and the puddles were fun!! It was nice to get all wet and dirty with my daughter!

We came in for a snack of peanut butter and apples (yum!) and Becca drank her milk from a cup (with no lid!). She was so graceful with it! Sippy cups will not be around forever!! The entire afternoon was wonderful. I still feel like crap (monthly witch) however the time spent with Becca made the crap not so important….

Pic of the Day ~ Becca at UCR Gardens becca ucr

Being a stay at home mommy, I often lose track of what day of the week it is. I was convinced that tomorrow after my dentist appointment (yuck!), Becca & I had a Nature Walk with the mommy’s group. So this morning, we went outside to play in the yard before it rained (we are suppose to get a whole whack of rain the next couple days). We were all content outside when the landscaping dudes came to FINALLY add more rocks (I requested more in December!), so we came inside and I checked my email….The Nature Walk was today!! I ran to the shower and hosed myself down, rushed Becca and flew out the door.

Becca & I had a wonderful time at the Nature Walk. We joined the other Mommy’s at the UCR Botanical Gardens (thankfully minutes from our house so I made it there on time!). Becca was shy at first since there were so many mommy’s and kids. After walking a while, she warmed up though and ran after all the kids. She had such a wonderful time! It is so nice to see her that happy with other children. The Mommys are GREAT too!!! Very down to earth and comfy to be around. Becca & I returned home for lunch rather than staying (partly because I did not have time to pack a lunch), since Becca has been having some sleep issues, I thought it best we stay close to her schedule!

After Becca’s nap we did a little painting and had a snack together. Then we cruised back to UCR to rescue J from having to walk home in the rain! Now J & Becca are wrestling on the floor and playing. Life is good. I love rain. It cleanses the earth and makes everything so fresh and new!

Ok am I the only one that totally related to “Grey’s Anatomy” last night when Bailey’s breasts leaked when the other doctor cried!?!?!?! hahaha! I so had leaky breasts the first few months after Becca was born!! I so laughed so hard when we were watching the show last night!

Writer’s Block & A Story

Pic of the Day ~ Becca At Birth birth

We had another bumming around day . We talked about the leaving the house, it just never happened! So instead we played, watched movies and bummed around….perfect weekend!!

I spent some of the day slowly working on the new theme. *sigh* I am learning a lot, however it takes me FOREVER to figure it all out.

I am having writer’s block, like in a bad way so I am going to share with you Becca’s Birth Story:

July 13, 2004 - Becca was 5.5 weeks early. Unfortunately, my condition with the pre-eclampsia (toxemia) got quite severe and the OB insisted that I was induced ASAP.

They started me on oxytocin (a drug that starts contractions), penicillin (because I had not been tested for Group B so it was precautionary), and Magnesium Sulfate (a drug that is designed to control blood pressure from rising but makes a person feel like they are going to burn alive from the inside….I am not exaggerating the stuff was TERRIBLE).

It took until 11am for my contractions to start. I was not feeling too well from the Blood Pressure medication and my blood pressure was still very high. OH MY! When those contractions started, my intentions to not have an epidural and “go natural” quickly faded and I was asking as nicely as I could for drugs!!!! Unfortunately the doctor that was to administer the epidural was an ass and insisted that MORE blood tests be completed before he put the epidural in, even though my doctor was confident everything was ok. Anyway, two and a half hours later the tests came back and the doctor was back to put the epidural in. By that time I was in so much pain, I was passing out in between contractions, only to wake up when the contractions were the most intense!! The nurses were distraught that I was in so much pain. Poor J was so upset as I cried “Oooo J it hurts too much make it stop…please make it stop!” The nurse gave me a shot of Demerol in the meantime, but that did not settle well with me. Instead I puked all over her and was still in intense pain!

No one thought to check how far along I was in labor before the epidural was inserted. It was suppose to take till early evening at least to become fully dilated……Oh NOooooooooooo…..not me!!! As soon as they had me back on my back I was asking….”Ummmm why do I feel so funny??? My bum feels funny!” The nurse was like “OH NO NO NO!! Not yet” Well low and behold she checked me and I was fully dilated!!!!!

J had just came back into the room (he had to leave while the epidural was being inserted because it is a “sterile procedure”), to discover it was time to meet our little baby girl. I was so relieved that the pain had subsided and just want to push so bad! Luckily the doctor happened to be in the hallway and they quickly called the NICU nurses so they could be present when she made her appearance. I was suppose to be moved to another room to give birth that had more equipment for the baby in case she was in distress but there was no time to move!

Haha…the OB got my legs in position, Jason was by my side but it took all of me not to push yet…..the feeling to push was SOOOOOO strong!!! Finally the OB said to push, then he says to stop and not push so HARD!! LIKE COME ON!!!! I had so no control over it!!! The OB wanted me to slow down so I could stretch a little more rather than tear when she came out. Well FOUR pushes and Rebecca Ann was HERE!!!

She cried so loud…it was such a relief to hear her cry….the NICU nurses checked her over (her Apgar scores were 9 & 9!!!) and cleaned her up, then let me hold her for a few seconds then took her to the NICU =( J went right away to go be with her, while the OB….stitched up the tear I had from pushing too fast (ouch ouch ouch)! Then I had to wait till the super late stupid useless epidural wore off =( Two hours later they FINALLY let me go see Rebecca, but the nurses in the NICU would not let me hold her, it was not until the next DAY that I was able to hold her again. I have to tell you, it was so hard not to be with her, but I was still very ill from that Magnesium Sulfate and my blood pressure was still way out of control!

That is my story…Hopefully I will not have writer’s block for long!

Ahhh a Mommy Day!!!

Pic of the Day ~ My Becca Boo! becca boo

Yup, I am a spoiled Mommy! J took Becca out for the morning!!! Oh yeah can we say “PJ’s, Coffee and Laptop”!!! I relaxed this morning….working away at the next blog theme (ugh still have a long way to go, but I am getting there). Called my Dad & my Grandma…I am a good kid (usually I forget and they have to call me!)

J took Becca to the park, and while there, she witness some older (ie 2-3) year olds going down the BIG slide…Becca being the ultra brave kid, followed suit, J was so proud! Even though she yet to the park this morning, her nap was uber short :( J was out getting groceries (see I was totally spoiled!) so Becca and I played indoor bowling, with empty pop bottles and a ball. She didn’t really “get it” but thought it was funny! Then we goofed around till J got home.

J even cooked dinner . Mmm hot dogs & potato salad!! And he did the dishes, which I mistakenly commented was better than roses (now I am never getting flowers!!)
I am back to the design, so I am a bad blogger buddy today :( Sorry I will get to your blogs later or tomorrow I promise!! Oh, a note on that. I seriously love your comments and in return comment on your blogs. There are the uber organized bloggers that email back every comment. This I admire, but so cannot do consistently. So my hope is that you love comments as much as this comment junkie does .

Pic of the Day ~ Becca “helping” Mommy Clean!!becca cleaning

Becca has expensive taste! Or rather does not distinguish between food and slimey things that are crawling on the ground. Yes, my daughter picked up a snail and ate it. YUCK! I being the ever watchful, caring parent, didn’t even notice!! One of the girls in the neighborhood, tattled on my sweet angel, but not before she swallowed!! Only my kid! Only my kid!

My worst nightmare came true the other day…Our coffee maker broke down . J rushed to our local Kmart and quickly replaced it with a brand new spanking black one!! It is so pretty and makes COFFEE!!! Oh sweet heavenly coffee…

Becca and I hung around the house today, it was kinda a drag but we had an appointment with the cable dude. Doesn’t it drive you nutz that that cable dudez cannot make a specific appointment time? Like 8am-12pm?!??! Yeah and the guy shows up at 11am. I never get lucky and have the earliest appointment (and if I did…I probably be in the shower and complain about that :???:). So it is official we have cable phone service. So far it is working awesome! The line is more clear, and definitely louder!! Top it off that the service is $30 cheaper for more stuff, we are rocking! Oh, and it has 911 as a battery backup thingy!

I puttered around with some designing this afternoon, and I am looking forward to being a bum tonight….What are your plans for the weekend?

Did no one see the video in the last post? I kinda figured someone would comment on it yet no one did??!?!?! Have a great Friday evening!!
