Tired Becca

Pic of the Day ~ A Very Tired Becca

Although we did not wake at 5am to hit the stores, we did venture out to the mall around 9am. It was crazy busy and totally fun to watch the people. We really did not spend any money. I did find a cute maternity top and a pair of pants that were on clearance! We also picked up a rice cooker that was half price! We were searching for one, ever since Kristie (J’s sister), requested we find one for a Christmas present!!

While at the mall, I stopped in at a washroom to discover I was spotting. It really freaked me out! I never spotted with Becca and we are 12 weeks along so I thought it was odd. We headed home and I called the Urgent Care number that we are suppose to use after hours (why do these things never happen during the week, rather always on holidays?), anyway our OB called back, since he was on call, and advised I take it easy and relax. He said it was normal, since I am in no pain and have no cramping and to come see him next week. We have our scheduled appointment on Wednesday, so we will find out more then. I took a nap, so I would not spend the afternoon worrying. Since our very cautious OB is not worried I am trying to be cool….not easy :( I am totally being a bum until this stops or the OB says different.

Becca did not nap this afternoon, after falling alseep in the traffic jam on the way home. She is exhausted and totally heading to bed a little early. Me too :P I will keep you all updated if anything changes :)

Becca & Daddy Playing

Pic of the Day ~ Becca & Daddy Playing

w00t! Our first American Thanksgiving was wonderful! J got an early start, allowing me to sleep in a little. We worked on the preparation together and played with Becca in between! We also set up our Christmas tree today! Becca was in awe of the lights and all the ornaments! She is doing really well with the “no touch” we have been working on so hopefully that will extend to the tree!

Just as a side note on the “no touch” progress. We have a CD/DVD stand that has been extremely tempting for Becca, despite our protests. I was determined not to totally “baby proof” the place and I really wanted her to understand the “no touch” concept! Well in the last few days she has done really well. I find myself realizing at the end of the day that I had not cued her not touch the CD’s, it totally rocks!

Anyhoo…When Becca was down for a nap, J & I had some quiet time and chilled out. Then we all watched “Nemo” together while waiting for the turkey to cook. I have to say, I was prepared for the meal to be “ok” but not spectacular since we cooked it. Haven’t you ever noticed that meals taste WAY better when your Mom or Grandma cooks it?? Anyway, this meal was FANTASTIC!! I totally pigged out!! And with pregnancy slowing down the digestion, I felt like I was going to burst. Why is it when it comes to stuffing one can not just stop?!!?!?!
christmas tree
Now that we are on the topic of the pregnancy, J is so cute! Last like we were seeing if we could feel the little one inside, it is still pretty small so we could not tell. J was totally all “It happens so fast I want to take in every moment”. My man is so awesome!

After dinner we all vegged out and J & Becca played. Becca is just learning to “dance” and is starting to dance when you ask her too! Too cute! It is so fun to watch J & Becca together. They play so nicely and she totally adores spending time with her Daddy!

So odd to think that there is no “Boxing Day” here in the US. Boxing Day is the day after Christmas, when Canadians line up to get everything they did not receive for Christmas or to spend their Christmas money. It appears Americans have this time honoured tradition the day after Thanksgiving. Some stores like, turkeyTarget will even give you a wake up call at 4:30 am so you can be at their store by 5am (You can even pick Kermit the frog to call you how cool is that?)! Canadians in general are not that commited to getting a good deal. Intitially J & I totally said we were staying home tomorrow and not dealing with the hellish crowds, but after browsing the flyers today I totally totally want to go shopping tomorrow!!!! I will let you know tomorrow if we decide to brave the crowds!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Adventures in Potty Training

Becca Playing

Pic of the Day ~ Becca playing with her Toys

After talking to my Mother-in-law yesterday, I figured I should at least start the process of potty training Becca. So Becca & I ran some errands in the morning then return home to attempt using the potty. Although Becca never actually went in the potty, she did always tell me after she went in her training pants that she was wet :P Problem is I cannot seem to keep her on the potty very long. She wants to hop off as soon as she sits down. I even moved the potty into tje livingroom so she could watch tv and sit, no go! How do you get a kid to sit on a potty? I tried singing, reading, nothing seemed to work. I so did not expect it would work the first try so I am not losing faith :P I know if she went in she would get it…eventually. She did pull up her training pants which was very cool!

So besides shadowing my daughter all day to catch her in the act :P I prepared stuff for thanksgiving tomorrow, like peeling potatoes, sweet potatoes and tearing up the bread for the stuffing.

I am very excited about putting up the tree tomorrow!! It will be fun to watch Becca around it :P

Getting Ready….

Becca with her cat

Pic of the Day ~ Becca vegging out with Charisma

For Thanksgiving! So Becca & I went to the grocery store to pick up the last of our supplies for our Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday (that is when we do it right?). Then I worked on addressing the Christmas cards while Becca snoozed for another whopping 3 hours!

Thanks for the comments and advise on the Potty Training debate! I talked with my Mother-in-law this afternoon and decided to start the process after Thanksgiving. She also mentioned something really sad that parents totally need to keep in mind. A toddler was killed by being crushed underneath a television set! How scary is that? We have a 36′ TV that would kill me if it landed on me! J says that the tv is secure unless there is a major eathquake. Another reason our kids should not sit too close to the tv! anyway, somehting to keep in mind out there….Is you tv secure?

On a lighter note, J’s anniversary gift FINALLY arrived in the mail today!!! He loves his new CBC retro t-shirt!!! He looks so manly in it!!! YUM!

Off to put the little pumpkin to bed and veg out watching mindless tv!

The Potty Training Debate

Becca on the Potty

Pic of the Day ~ Becca Posing on the Potty

The current train of thought concerning when to potty train your child is much later of a start date than when we were kids. Kids are in diapers ranging from 2 years to 4 years old. Now I always said (before I had a toddler) that I was going to start Becca potty training much earlier than the norm. We have a potty & potty seats all ready for the plunge. I do understand that there has to be some readiness on Becca’s part, so I have held off, waiting for her to start communicating potty talk. In the last few days, Becca has started to say “poop” once she has pooped in her diaper. Now as you recall we use cloth diapers at home & the thought of not dealing with them is quite appealing. Now the discussion has begun in our household whether or not we begin to teach Becca how to use the potty. The main responsibility of training will be mine (J works all day so he is off the hook for this one), and I am debating going for it. There are a lot of pros to having a potty trained toddler, especially with another baby on the way. Am I rushing her? Will her psyche be permanently scarred by potty training early? Am I ready to stay at home for a least a week if not two and dedicate our days to making sure she gets the potty deal? How long does it take to potty train a toddler? Will she really get it? So many questions…..When did you potty train your kids? Was it as hard as it seems? I need to buy a book that always helps :P

As for our day….I was a little “off” today. J attempted to wake me 4 times before I got my sorry butt out of bed. The rest of the day, although I am not really tired or sick, I just feel “off”. Becca must be feeling “off” too, she slept three hours this afternoon, rather than her usual two. Then we cruised to the post office (man they are busy this time of year!) to send off a package to Canada, then over to the Dollar Store across the street for a roasting pan for our turkey. I have to say the Dollar Stores here in the US rock compared to the Canadian ones! Everything here is really ONE DOLLAR!?!!? hehe In Canada they are cheap stores not really really dollar stores. Plus here they have everything you can imagine!! All for a BUCK! It is awesome! hehe!

Once home I cooked dinner and now J is off playing with Becca & taking her for a walk. I am so so spoiled and lucky that J takes over for me in the evenings with Becca. Becca & I are pretty active during the day, trips to the laundry room, playing in the backyard and playing with her toys. By 6pm I am tired physically and emotionally I need to not be playing with Little People for a while to re-energize myself. Thank Goodness for the blog. It is my adult thing to do. It is all my creation, and darn it I am proud of it. That being said I am off to start addressing Christmas cards so they can make it to Canada on time :P
